Jonny Ertl...Pompeys equivalent of John Charles
Having read AA's comments it sounds like he will stay in the team ... as was written somewhere... you know what you get with Jonny and you know what you don't get... I'd also forgotten how unusual access to the away end at Kenilworth Road isOriginally Posted by midhurstblue

Jonny Ertl...Pompeys equivalent of John Charles
John Charles now he was aThe reported fee for him moving from Elland Road to Juventus in August 1957 was £65k, almost doubling the previous British record. As for us it will be interesting to see who starts at Newport and who doesn't.
Yep a great centre half and equally great centre forward...Jonny you can do it.
Always remember an incident on the Waterloo train after Leeds played down here...We all got on at the Town station including the Leeds players. For some reason the Leeds players were sat in an open compartment as opposed to a closed with sliding door one.Anyway one nipper was collecting autographs thinking to get off at Fratton, however it sailed straight through much to the chagrin of said nipper. He started crying thinking that he would have to come back from Havant or maybe somewhere further out,but he had no money...step up Big John, stuck his hand in his pocket a drew out a 2 bob coin which
he gave to the boy.
What a star Big John was.A real gentleman...much like our own Big Jonny.
If that nipper was you, please stand up![]()

I was at this game, ten years old. I think it was 2-2 at half time, I do remember John Charles scoring a hat trick...my dad would again sing 'owning to the wind and rain, poor old Pompey lost again' I hated the wind and the rain !!
You asked about Burt. It is a predominately IoW, Hants and Dorset.
Origin: English and Scottish: from the Old English personal Byrht, a byform of Be(o)rht ‘bright’.
We have a Burt in our town. Crazy Clive Burt who incidentally comes from a very wealthy family, likes real ale and supports Spurs. He could be a rello of yorn.
Dunno mate,I think my lot were poor as church mice.
How times have changed though, apparently my Grans brother would walk his cows from Brockenhurst to sell at Ringwood market. Then walk home. Phuck that
