[quote="rjc_1988"]I don't share the optimism about the returning players - I can't see Mitchell dislodging Dowie at right back unless there are further injuries /suspensions. Burns can play a part but goodness knows what the problem is with McKenna and there must be huge question marks about him given his time out.Paton is a good player but he is not a striker and to accommodate him the manager will probably have to sacrifice someone like Russell who can be erratic but scores a fantastic number of goals fom a wide position.

Miller is undoubtedly a gifted midfielder but to come to us unfit is hardly a ringing endorsement and when you see how sharp teams like Hibs are in midfield being fit is an absolute pre-requisite. Keep saying it but to allow Kerr and particularly Baird to leave to our rivals was an error of judgement.

Can't believe how many Queens fans were negative towards Baird - for me he was under utilised but when he played he invariably led the

We must get another striker in failure to do this will show our intentions that we are no longer looking to make the playoffs.
To release Baird while still under contract without haveing a replacement organised was madness a said that at the time and still can't beleave how stupid it was and the fact he then signed for our rivals for 4th makes it worse.
Fair enuf we now have long term injured players comeing back however unless we get a decent front man in a think it could be a long 2nd half of the season.

Well, I do hope the Management and players have a more optimistic - or should that be less defeatist - attitude than displayed here.

We lost to a very decent Hibs side who, as many expected, are getting stronger all the time.

Surely this does not mean our season is over !

It was always going to be a close fight for that 4th spot and will be for the remainder of the season.

Our game in hand - see, things aren't all that bad - with Raith now becomes very important as they are not out of it either.

Baird and Kerr have gone, it is time to move on although some are even still bleating about the departure of a player who had no impact on our season whatsoever.

It would not do any harm to have another striker available but it is certainly not imperative - the current incumbents have all contributed well thus far.

To say the return of Burns and Mitchell, and hopefully McKenna at some point, will not strengthen our hand is absolute nonsense !

After a shaky start, Falkirk are now showin

Good post Nith Valley, but we still need a replacement for Baird, regardless of what you say, - unless of course we have no intention of going for 4th spot!

I would have taken Muirhead as well, as he is a quality player and a Dumfries lad.

Without any doubt on this subject, Queens can say goodbye to a play-off place this season if there's not a striker that's going to come in and score a fair few goals in what's left of the season! Del and Gav both looked of the pace yesterday against Hibs. We need someone before next weekend and preferably not cup tied so he can play in the game with St Johnstone !

There is always a difficult balance to strike between being sensible financially and making some acquisitions.

Falkirk in my view have been well prepared for the window - they have identified targets that would make their squad better equipped for the play off and acted quickly, efficiently and their actions have not only energised the players but also lifted the fans and got them to believe that they are going places.

After playing exceptionally well in the first half of the season I was very disappointed that two key players wanted to leave in the first place.one of whom was willing to sacrifice the relative security of an 18 month unexpired contract to replace it with an insecure 6 month deal!!!!!! What ever way you argue things that is a not a ringing endorsement.

I take the view that if we want to become a successful community club like say Hamilton we need to be looking to strengthen continuously - small improvements here and there but always looking to mprove. The best time t

The penalty incident was the turning point of the game and up until that point HIbs didn't look like scoring but they were in the ascendency. We have enough strikers to do the business and to be fair they didn't squander a barrow load of chances yesterday. Our problems are in midfield and poor delivery of dead ball situations. It was mentioned in another thread as to the lack of back room staff preparing the team before kick-off compared with HIbs. This is an alarming observation which may have bearing on recent form.

Queens are still in with a shout but a lot will depend on the midfield situation and whether Burns,McKenna and Paron can step up to the table.

I think Jordan White of Livi would be a good signing for Queens. Tall mobile striker with a decent scoring record. Unfortunately he would cost money and i can't see Queens paying a fee for a player.
