there is no answer to the question as you can't define what a big club is, everyone will have a different criteria.
i always thought you feel a big club.
when you play against a big club, you know it before you even see the side.
WEDNESDAYs star may have fallen a bit but its possible to put it right should the right atmosphere be created. given the right circumstances WEDNESDAY could challenge at the top end of the elite in english football.
in my opinion, thats what a big club is

    Pete, here's a question:

How would you rank Yorkshire clubs in terms of size?

    Personally I'd say...

    1.Leeds
    2.Sheff Wed
    3.Sheff United
    4.Middelsbrough
    5.Hull
    6.Bradford
    7.Barnsley
    8.Huddersfield
    9.Rotherham
    10.Doncaster
    11.York

My opinion is on fanbase, achievements, potential, history and current position.

I understand that you could put an argument forward for each club on why they should be higher or lower in the list. For example Hull City have grown massively as a football club in the last few years.

Do you ever talk about anything else?
I reckon our attendances over the last 60 years would compare favourably alongside the majority of clubs currently outside the top flight and a few currently in it.
Certainly better than all clubs currently in the 3rd division.

Been thinking about the op's original question & I reckon there's only one definition that makes total sense & it's simply...

    SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY = THE MASSIVE

    ...nothing else need be said.
