That's why I started the post. I was bored with Sunday TV so I thought I'd try and see what people actually thought of the playoffs as we are stuck with them
I would quit while you are still ahead pal. When you start to upset some of the natives as I have done recently, my advice is take a back seat for a while and shut your gob.
I understand where you're coming from and thanks but the truth is there's quite a few people who do use this site that can still have a polite conversation, a bit of a sense of humour and its interesting reading their comments, whether you agree or not, the world would be boring if we all agreed but what's not right is when people comment and they are blasted with rudeness and personal remarks...

you shouldn't need to go quiet, its a forum

re: playoff change

I think it's a perfectly good point (the opening post that is). We have discussed it before.

I think the play offs are great (for other teams ) but completely unfair. This is a league and yet we decide the final promotion place more on a cup format than a league one.

There has to be a knock out system but it should be more heavily stacked in favour of the final league placings. The current '3rd plays 6th' nonsense doesn't mean anything. The play offs can be about form - you can have a team on fire in 6th and a team who are on the slide and low on confidence in 3rd, it's all about timing. So it should be more than just the 3rd place team playing 6th and at home in the second leg, there should be something like a goal advantage or something.

So to give more advantage based on league position makes sense to me.

It gives a bit of reward for your seasons results and probably keeps interest going to the last game. Third place team have the consolation that they're at Wembley, although it didn't do us any good last season.
The NFL system? In each conference in the NFL system #6 plays away to 3; 5 away to 4. The winners play away to 1 and 2. The conference final is them contested at the home of the highest ranked team. The 2 conference winners play on neutral territory in Superbowl.

So you are suggesting simple home advantage to the highest ranked remaining teams until the final. As there is only one knockout round in the championship playoffs, all you are saying is have a one game playoff between 6 and 3, at 3 etc. Virtually no change at all.

I prefer the sort of system used in IPL or Aussie Rul

I'd have scrapped the play offs as a whole. It's exciting but puts the following season back a month allowing less preparation time for the winner and loser

Could be best for us to miss out on play-offs altogether this time. We ain't going to be good enough to win and its damaging losing out.
Could start the reorganisation sooner and find out if there's any truth in all this bull s.

4 the v 5th. No goal head start but if draw then higher position team (4 the) goes through

All this after extra time but no penalties needed (seems unfair to settle on penalties to me)

Final. If draw after extra time. Highest league position goes up

I know its not a science and won't always work out but it may mean teams involve fight til the end of the 46th game to get higher position

Any other ideas?
How about the team finishing 3rd getting auto promotion. There's a novel idea
I realise that the only way the Rams can now go up is via the play offs. However a team finishing 6th, often quite a number of points behind the top 3 really shouldn't deserve to get into the PL.

Let's hope this year will change your view, for one year only at least, if we manage to scrape 6th place and we manage to win at Wembley
