So how would you honour Jack Tinn then? Agree that we should honour these people, but I would be a lot more sympathetic to calling our new stands, wings, boxes, suites, training centres, etc, after these guys than putting up a statue.

With those permanent structures, there is no reason why we cannot include a plaque setting out a brief resume of their achievements, and then include further and more specific details of their contributions in a permanent Pompey Memorial Trophy Room or whatever.

Those I would prefer to see included would certainly go back to the 1920s, 30s and then Jimmy D plus two or three others from that Cup & championships winning era, plus, say (but not exclusively), people of the longevity with us and calibre as Peter Harris, Alan Knight, etc.

Maybe even 'Arry!!!! After all this is his "spiritual home", innit?

My point is, there are so many things that money could be spent on. Was listening to 'the Football Hour' last night and I was well impressed by what Pompey in the community are doing as a charity. Don't waste money, put it to good use. If you have capital to spend and want to remember an old Pompey legend, create a Jimmy Dickinson scholarship and pay for an underprivileged local nipper to go to Uni or something. Got to be better than a flippin' statue.

Think a Wall of Fame would be a better idea with plaques to commemorate our legends. And cheaper.

Start with Jimmy Dickinson if you like, maybe two others and then only allowed to add a new plaque every ten years. Otherwise we would have a wall covered in no time with players/managers with no real claim to legendary status.

If we did this who would be your starter three?

You can have this one at a knock-down price. It never fails to raise a smile.

It's a 'one face fits all' statue. It looks like Milan Mandaric, Jimmy Dickinson, Jimmy Hill, Jimmy Crankie - in fact most people called Jimmy. About the only person it doesn't look like is Ted Bates.

The Club already has a "hall of Fame/Legends" wall and it is situated in the suite below the Fratton End...admittedly it is not on show to the general public but it can be viewed on match days. (if you have a ticket for the FE!). I 4 v 1 think the statue to "honour" Jimmy Dickinson OUR Clubs must Loyal Servant is a great idea and I have already made a small contribution. A small replica of the statue was on view at the recent Portsmouth History Day and appeared at the very least to be a far better statue then the Milan One!! Each to their own i know but I ha

I stand to be corrected but it is my understanding that this statue is being privately funded (with funds raised from fans and businesses etc)...whether the Club has made any contribution I do not know...perhaps someone like PompeyLoyal (who has an ear to the ground) can comment/confirm the situation regarding the funding...

If you use the same sculptor we did, your statue will probably have ears to the ground.

If its money from the fans, we should use it for more fans shares.
