No he probably isn't one for the future, but we have a raft of young players plus a number in the U21's so an experienced head who does not crumble under pressure is an asset and he did score 12 in 17 games in an underperforming team, so not a bad option.
I'd disagree with you Swale here but that's the beauty of Football.

For me, Bent will be VERY expensive and he has proved to me that he doesn't fit our system, work hard enough or offer something in other areas to compensate for this.

If Martin is fit, he shouldn't play and if Martin is injured then by playing him we look a much poorer side.

If I could be bothered I'd work out our points ratio to when Bent has played compared to others and it w

That was from the 19th of May.

With FFP, Bent isn't going to get offered a big contract anywhere. I doubt a PL team will take a punt on him and offer him regular football, so we've probably got the best chance of getting him. 20k a week tops, i think.

Investing in the future of this club is to get promoted in time for the new TV deal. Signing a proven, lethal goalscorer is exactly that.

Bit of gossip I've heard is today is Clement has agreed terms today. He's been fiddling around with a pay off with Madrid but that is seemingly sorted now. An announcement won't be far away. Sunderland had late interested, but has chosen us.

Bent hasn't agreed yet. I'm told he's waiting for discussion with the new head coach before making a decision, although the club are confident on him joining.

Another bit of gossip is that last week we spoke to Robert Huth about joining up, but Leicester where he was on loan at, have stolen the March and he is joining them

Finally, we have been speaking to Alex Pearce of Reading. He has rejected a contract and has been talking to a few clubs, one being Leeds. The club are very interested in him, and discussions are continuing. Good free agent, and I think that's one that might just happen
Interesting stuff SDSR and thanks for pos

Says you! But then your juvenile posting style says all that needs to be said about you. Maybe if you spent more time justifying your point of view instead of throwing juvenile insults around then others would take you seriously,

I am gonna support Swales on this one

Firstly, all this rumour about £25k pw, its all conjecture. No one knows whats on the table. And I am confident Sam will only offer him what the club can afford

With Bent, you buy a proven goal scorer. He has scored wherever he has been. 12 goals in 17 games for Derby last season!! And that in a system that doesnt play to is strengths many say

I am gonna stick my neck out here - and just my opinion...

The McClaren system (4-3-3) wont get us promoted. It will be pleasing on the eye, but with a fragile defence and a team of attack minded midfielders, then savvy teams will pick us off.

Whoever takes over has to find solidity in defence and midfield. Getting George T fit again will be a massive help, but that alone isnt enough. I would like to see us play a 442 next season. Leicester, Burnley, Watford, Bournemouth - all auto promoted last 2 seasons playing 442. Play Bent with a man alongside him, and I think he is even better than the 12 i

How many of Bent's games for us did you actually see?

He scored some good goals and we didn't have anyone else so effective in the box. He can't judged just on that peno miss , many others have missed penalties for us in recent times.

But I am not sure we should spend a lot of money or indeed complete any transfer before the new manager is in place.
