Just to keep the debate going!
We did have all those players coming through and so why do we need to change the level of the academy to suit the FA/PL rules that employs a lot more staff and whether that WILL result in better kids coming through that are good enough, remains to be seen doesn't it? If you double or treble the cost, surely there should be a return? Otherwise?
Please folks. Just try and read the posts. NOBODY is saying ditch the academy. How much did Dario spend at Shavington with the local kids back then. Then it was the costs of the facilities that contributed to the 500 grand a year it cost, then what? After we paid for them all? Now its a million pounds PER year and we own all or most of the facilities with a contribution from the FA/PL.
God! This is a hungry monster with an ever increasing appetite!
If we have 50 kids turning up back then, what's changed other than kids all thinking they are the next Wayne Rooney with pound signs affecting their loyal

Correct me if I'm wrong but if we drop to a Cat 3 then under the EPP rules we will no longer be able to take kids at 7/8 which is what Dario has always done. We will have to try and get them at 14? 16? what would be the impact on our club?
You can google and find the answers. But wonder how many fans here know this under the new EPPP rules.
The EPPP has been greeted with scepticism from parts of The Football League. Some claim the Premier League has blackmailed the Football League by threatening to remove all youth development funding if the Football League did not accept the new deal.[22] It has been described by some as a way of catering for only the elite. The new rules mean that a category-A academy can go to any other training ground to watch a player (giving 48 hours notice) and effectively buy the player for a fixed fee starting from £3,000.[23]
