Scott Wooton can play anywhere across the backline.
He is a recognised Centre Back.
Yes he was played at right back with us, we were shorthanded at right back at the time.
Not saying he`s a world beater but he may be a player that we can afford on loan.
Wooton never let us down when he played right back for us.
Roos will be going nowhere soon unless we sign another goalkeeper
Agree about an O`Hara type player.
Agree about Rawson & Wood. ( not holding my breath though )
Bowery needs advice from JCH how to bulk up and be a little more aggressive.
Evans should stop playing Bowery right side, just give the lad an extended run out down the middle same goes for Maguire, his favoured position is striker although the Owls also played him wide right. OMI.
That`s my FIFA Management done for today bye.

Likely we will end up with nobody. Loans are a waste of time anyway in my,opinion. No allegiance to the club and likely to be recalled sometime in the season. Why not go with what we have until Christmas and if relegation looks nailed on, save any cash for next season.

We need a central midfielder badly. On the basis of the first month I don't think that Smallwood is an automatic on the team sheet. Derbyshire and JCH (or Ward/JCH) would be a decent strike force but we can't afford to play a central midfield of two with our current crop. I know they're not easy to come by, but a midfielder with some physique and/or athleticism would give us a fighting chance, and I think the likes of G Ward/Freck would improve playing alongside a midfielder like that.

PS, it might sound silly, but I don't think we need a centre half (or at least not as a priority). Broadfoot and Rawson looked a decent partnership (briefly, albeit) last season, and Thorpe hopefully learnt lessons from the MK game and came with a good pedigree. I actually think Wood has more to offer than the current two, but he does seem so far down the pecking order he won't claim it back.

Basically, I think there's a chance of our six current centre backs we're playing the worst two.

A left back who exists would be useful.

After that, a system would be nice. A set of defined roles that players play, ideally linked to their strengths. And where we don't have players for the role, sign those.

I agree we need a bit of central midfield energy and guile. I expect we'll sign a right winger and a centre forward, for the lols.

You're completely right about the central defenders. I feel dreadfully sorry for Collins, who's inherited the Coughlan and Fleming Award For Discovering His Career Ended Shortly After Signing For Us, but he's fundamentally no use to us. Halford still might be, but he needs a partner who isn't having his own private nightmare to help him keep his focus.

Broodfoot, having played no preseason games, is probably nowhere near able to just slot in and I suspect he won't play again. Neither will Wood, for not obvious reasons. I fear these two have a few more last chances yet.

I think I would opt for a left back too David. We seem particularly vulnerable on that side.
I agree with Mandy as well. Although central defence has been dire so far I would hope we have options which will improve that area.
Nice to see that most posters on this thread are addressing the subject matter.
Only one so far has taken the opportunity to take another shot at Evans - repeating the same criticisms for about the zillionth time.

I reckon we need a keeper and two new full backs

And two centre backs, three midfielders, a striker and two wide men

Subs are ok we have plenty of benchwarmers

re: So who do we want

Of those who started against Fulham, I'd only trust Newell, Smallwood, JCH and possibly Buxton, to be capable of getting us out of the mess we're in. Collin, would be borderline, a decent second choice and the jury would be out on Maguire, not having played in his chosen position (nothing new there) and not being fully match fit.

A fully fit Mattock would probably be another, I'd include White because he offers something different and has pace and Broadfoot if he can recapture the form he showed at the end of last season. Add to that Rawson and possibly Thorpe with Frecks, Danny Ward and Derbyshire (who is too wasteful to be playing every week) as back up and that should be our core squad. (I'd also include Wood but he's clearly out of the picture).

So, I'd start with those 14 and take it from there.

tbh from the replies in this thread (diff views on where we need strengthening). we have a half decent team. were just lacking in a few positions....

    for the 11 starting positions
KEEPER. collin is not up to the task. he had all last season and came up short. hes not commanding enough. roos not ready so NEW KEEPER NEEDED..

RB Buxton is good enough, yes hes looked under pressure in the first few games but the RM cover has been by strikers. richardson is not ideal but good backup.

LB mattock is a decent player. only problem hes a sick note. keep him fit and position problem over. white can step in if needed though i would try for lafferty if price is right. LB NEEDED ?

CB,s wood, thorpe, halford, collins, broadfoot, rawson. plenty there if evans gets the pairing correct. prob take a injury for him to luck the best pair.
RM do we have one? RM NEEDED.

CM smallwood is a steady accomplished CM, his role is sitting and covering the defence frecks, ward, green are ve
