I blame the Romans. What have they ever done for us?

This is a messageboard and fans will comment. We can spot poor play when we see it ( even if we can't spot some things professionals would spot ) and yesterday's first half was very poor and very boring.

You can't argue with the point that Clement is inexperienced and appointing him was a risk. Appointing MacClaren was a risk but it had an immediate pay-off. Clement needs time and most fans will grant him that but I don't think anyone can say yet whether it will work out in terms of the promotion that is his target.

Yes he did sub Baird yesterday, but he was having a nightmare, although very disappointed with the booing from some fans. My point is, he has not made me feel confident so far in his ability to make changes during a game to improve us.

Clement has also dropped a clanger by naming Baird as his new captain, which in effect has made him undroppable, yet he isnt our strongest midfielder, not a 1st choice CH and now not the automatic RB either.

I meant Martin with the Chunk reference.

It's still very early days yet. There has been an awful lot of change and I think everyone needs to take stock.

Last season we had more free flowing football but I can also remember us looking very fragile defensively and leaking goals left, right and centre.....costing us top spot and in the end not even a play off place.

Clements philosophy is one of efficiency IMO. Ancelottis influence has rubbed off in the sense that we are more of a defensive machine. We have a great defensive record this season....if you sort out the defence then the rest will follow. We will click.

It's a results business and I don't think Clement is doing a bad job. Yes, I would like a more maverick approach but I don't want to be conceding two goals every game.

I have faith in Clement to deliver. People questioning his passion are incorrect IMO. He's a clever and astute guy who has succeeded at a higher level in his role and this is his chance to make his mark.

The likes of Butterfield will j

Yep, that bloomin' Mel bloke. I mean, what's he ever done for Derby? Apart from spend loads of money to avert an injury crisis that could have derailed any promotion hopes. Oh and spend a load more to ensure that our injury prone 'superstar' has some cover, oh and to buy us that much needed replacement central defender that everyone spent July and August moaning about. Then there's the money he's spent on providing us with some options up front so we're no longer totally reliant on the 'up and coming Scottish international' or 'falling wardrobe', depending what mood he's in...oh yeah, and he's provided us with the financial stability we've been craving for years. But apart from all that...and the fact that we're very handily placed after the opening 'laps' of the Championship 'marathon'...yeah, let's all blame Mel... for putting his money where his mouth is and raising expectations like that. :-?

I know you have Derby's interest at heart Chili, but we have not been in the position of having financial stability together with being able to spend relatively freely for a long time and when we last did Lionel publicised it too much so we were regularly ripped off.
You say fans shouldn't run a club but, imo, genuine fans - so long as they have some business acumen which MM certainly does - are the best people to run a club because they have an emotional as well as a business commitment
I don't understand FFP enough to comment...does anyone after what QPR have got away with?
Baird has been booed because of the over reaction by some to his gesture in the Leeds match. Personally I think it's amazing more players don't react more often considering some of the half witted abuse they sometimes get from certain so called 'fans', the type who have gone a long way to destroying Christie's confidence.
Those who think that Mel's spending equals instant returns aren't really worth bothering

It's not an easy job for PC, but he has taken on the challenge and is doing OK. Expectation is high and due to his reputation Clement is expected to deliver something a bit more forward thinking than for example Mick McCarthy at Ipswich (and that's by no means a criticism of Mick). It seems PC wants the Rams to play more patient football like Chelsea. That's not easy to achieve, but it's probably part of the remit to build a side that gets promoted and can play football in the PL and survive. We are lucky to have a chairman like Mel, willing to finance the project.

Last three managers show the face of football.

Clough asked to do miracles. Did and then gets slated and easily forgotten by fickle fans.

Mcclaren took a golden ticket and expectation was low so could talk risks.

Clement comes in on back of expectation doesn't do a bad job (so far) but gets slated.

There really is no winning its ridiculous.

A lot comes with it??? What exactly? better players for instance? of course money does not solve everything but it helps as long as the rest of the structure works.

What Clough did was not a miracle by any stretch of the imagination, he did what 75% of the managers in the championship and below do, better than some and worse than some. A miracle is what lambert did at Norwich, take over after the close of the transfer window when they were bottom having been thumped 7-1
