Thread: Make of this what you will

Make of this what you will

My daughter came home today bouncing with enthusiasm for wanting to pursue a career in journalism having been to a careers presentation with a local journalistic body.

Part of the presentation got around to discussing sports journalism and the power and impact of the media.

An example given on one topic was Paul Clements after match interview on Radio Derby after the Reading game, and in particular how negative it was.

Apparently Mel Morris was not happy at this interview, thought it was too harsh, negative publicity and entered the Rams changing room to make his views known.

It is then alleged that Paul Clement contacted Radio Derby and asked for the after match interview to stop being played.

Don't shoot the messenger, this is just what I've been told. If true it offers a different perspective on what Mels entry to the changing room was about.

This could suggest a gap in thinking between owner and coach, a disagreement or it could have simply been a 'let's keep thi

No, it was Libel Action. That's what I've been told by my daughter's nephew's niece anyway.

To me, this sounds like a couple of stories stitched together to make one more interesting one.

Firstly, I don't recall the post Reading game to be that negative. We were very poor and he said so but I thought he was reasonably accurate in what he said. There was no panic at that stage, we thought it was a blip and were hoping for a bounce back against Brum. Now, if it had been after the Preston game then I could understand it - that was a particularly worrying interview and left me questioning the manager might not have the fight or desire to carry on here, as well as a sideways dig at three quarters of the home fans. That's an interview Clement might not have wanted airing too often. I'm surprised more hasn't been made it.

The sequence of events also doesn't really stack - the radio Derby interview is some time after the game and the manager has already had words with the players by then. After that they are free to go off to the shower, bath, go out on the pitch to warm d

Just refering back to Clements Q&A last week.

Clement said that he was the most angry at half-time during the Reading match than any other time at Derby, in his own words, 'the players felt my wrath.'

Clement went on to confirm, what we already know, that Mel Morris came into the changing room after the game. Clement went on to say that Morris "didn't say anything that he (Clement) didn't agree with.'

Furthermore, Clement went on to say the players 'looked surprised' and it was a topic of conversation between himself and some players the following morning at training. However, Clement did add that he has witnessed owners coming into the changing rooms at other clubs before during his time and that it's not that unusual.

So, I'm not sure how true this new version is although your daughter simply relayed back what she had been told that day.

Yes it's quite possible that this is exaggeration or as you say two stories stitched together. I was amazed at what my daughter was telling me.

I'd thought so far how media savvy PC came across but the post Reading game he was particularly negative I recall. He had nothing positive to say.
I guess time will tell, but if it is true it shows MM in a slightly different light to the previously reported account of events.
Anyway hopefully we will be talking about 3 points gained later and all this stuff will be yesterday's chip paper so to speak. #COYR

This is the problem with too much media, scrutinising every morsel of speculation and gossip...'he said, she said..blah blah blah'

Just answer the questions directly, keep the dirty laundry behind closed doors and ban the players from twitter.
