F.A.O. - Aussie Owl and Braggy Owl

    Bit of nostalgia!

    PS

What I forgot to mention Braggy, is that going to that gig that night, on the 69 bus to Sheff from Rotherham with a mate, we got chatting to some other Rotherham lads who were all dressed in school uniforms, shorts and school caps. They were going to see AC/DC at the Black Swan! Jeez! I was really torn on which gig to go to but saw Alex and Slade as planned.

    Funny old world, eh?

Some good viewing there Park Gate.. The good old days eh.
Been to loads of gigs over the years and seen some top bands (some not so good anall like) but still enjoyed the occasion.
Seen AC/DC 6 or 7 times and still love em as much today as I did back then....memories eh.
This must surely be their last tour tho...Angus is 61 now...I only remember his age because of Let There Be Rock...."in the beginning, back in 1955" haha

Awesome stuff Parkgate...really Take's Me Bak 'Ome does that, I was & still am a MASSIVE Slade fan, best band ever for me, closely followed by the Stones, Def Lepard, AC/DC, so you can see where I come from...

Must say though I was never too keen on the Alex Harvey Band but I get why a lot of people liked them, they just didn't have the melody of Slade & too loud for me...Slade's early hand clapping stomping stuff is what got me in...I thought who the hell are these guys, proper musicians & Don Powel had so much power on the drums, I remember Jim Lea's brother stood in for Don for a few gigs & as much as he tried he just didn't have the power to drive a band like Slade.

Noddy has the best rock voice I've ever heard, I think Angus Young sounded him out over replacing Bon Scott but I don't know if he would have suited them. - view external link

I loved Slade's early use of the violin (Coz I Luv You / Look Wot U Dun) and loved all the 'b' sides to their singles which made me get the earlier albums Play It Loud (brilliant!) and Ambrose Slade. Remember rushing home with Slade Alive and giving the neighbours HELL!

The thing about Sensational Alex Harvey Band was - it wasn't just a gig, more a bit of Rock Theatre too which meant that there was always summat to be watching and not just 5 guys belting ace music out.

I have over 30,000 music tracks on my computer and if pushed to my absolute favourite track - it would be a toss-up between The Faith Healer (SAH or Symptom of the Universe (Black Sabbath).
