The BBG s atmosphere wasn't always that great. We were close to the pitch but the actual vocal parts of the popside and the ossie end were quite small and were frequently out done by a decent away following.

I think the atmosphere since moving to the south stand has been as good as the BBG on a like for like game basis.

Funny how people only remember the great atmosphere games at the BBG?

Like I've said before, there have been great games and atmospheres there in the past.....STANDING on the popside.
This really helped atmospheres at the grounds mentioned......not sure I want standing again to be honest (and I am probably in the minority)

Even without standing you can still have it. Albeit not as often. It's all about the experience too. Loved ****nal back in the day. Even the stewards were local supporters not done student or migrant. The pubs were packed and you'd see grandkids, kids, parents, grand parents I. The ground together. Was still like that at West Ham the home supporters experience very different. Even walking to the ground was an experience ignoring some of the old negatives.

But once in it was that old atmosphere. That was still there from before. The whole thing at West Ham was almost unreal as it could be at the bbg. Yes bit all the time but more often.

Would people say walking across pride park or through the meadows industrial park is the same as down rows and rows of terraced streets?

ooh you are an old fashioned romantic - I bet you had Hovis for tea with your grandad after youd climbed up that steep cobbled street to his house?

[quote="Rattea"]I've been to a fair few football grounds over the years. Somewhere around 200. I experienced the atmosphere in te 70s and 80s and the jostling, having to not see half the game and the near most zones of the terraces.

But since the 90s I have seen the money flood into the game, the fan base change, the stadiums change and the traditions lost. Even none league football is very different today and clubs can rise from the conference to championship with very little having to be done.

But I have to say about the only place to retain some of this was West Ham. ****nal sold it years ago, manure is just a commodity and Liverpool has no real soul in the ground anymore. Everton have the old ground but not really the noise to qualify. We took two steps forward and two and a half back IMO when we moved.

So did last night see the end of what made the game so different in this country for so long? I agree times have to I've on but at what cost?[

Aye nothing like walking past rows of unfit slums having half bricks chucked at you for atmosphere. I do miss having someone **** down my leg, being crushed in an overcrowded ground when the fans surge after a goal and not seeing even half the action!

games where there is something at stake - derby games, play off semi, the league cup semi against man u all had a cracking atmosphere at Pride Park, one could enjoy that and see the action as well.
