Anya looked very lively and pretty direct.
Wilson and Vydra both playing in a new team were moving well and that is something that has been missing.
Bryson was more his old self.
    Ince not starting
Tempo was better to start with but then we faded again.
The goal killed us and that needs sorting out. Heads down is no way to win games.

    To follow on.....

Russell why doesn't he close the full back down, does he know what he's on the pitch for ?
Olsen why not spin the ball down the line more instead of the negative backward pass to Shackell
Bryson and Hughes all the good work in their own half creates nothing
Blackman is he a footballer ? not sure

    My team for tuesday

    Mitchell
    Lowe Keogh Rawson Christie

    Butterfield
    Anya Bryson
    Hughes
    Vydra Wilson

Subs Carson Pearce Ince Olsen Johnson Camara Bent

I wouldn't have Shackell Russell Blackman anywhere near the squad

Moved from MM thread: Several times we had throws in advanced positions with at least one player in a godd position to take on the defenders. What did we do? Instead of a quick throw, Winger tosses it to midfielder who tosses it to Fullback whilst everyone trots forward. By which time Newcastle were back in shape -pathetic!

Also my thread on insanity called for change and that is what Pearson is trying to do by shaking up the squad and the tactics so credit to him for that. Until we went a goal down we were holding our own against a very good side so I'm not quite as depresses as I could be.

Taking it one stage further I would release Blackman from his contract and pay him off. That way we could save the employers national insurance cost on his wages at the very least.

Sounds like more of the same old same old to me. I was working so didn't see the game, so I suppose I was fortunate.

Why do we persist with the same tactics when we know they won't work? Seems like idiocy to me. In the second half against Villa we moved Hughes into the centre and hey presto we controlled the game. I said at the time if we played like we did against Villa in the second half on a regular basis we would do well, but if we reverted to the first half tactics we would struggle.

Press, move the ball around quickly and in a forward direction, with lots of movement, and shoot regularly. Really football is basically a very simple game.

It was strange - the players had obviously been told to stick to a formation, but there was very little change even when it was clear things weren't working - when we got to 75 minutes I actually asked one of my mates if we'd decided to settle for a defeat...
Hughes simply can't be restricted to play just in front of our back four if we're going to provide any ammunition to the front players and as for Russell - spent the whole game near the centre line and was normally on his heals whenever the ball came to him - thought he'd be buzzing having been given the nod ahead of Ince, but he was so subdued it was untrue.
On the positive side, it was a vast improvement on the Burton game - Anya will cause teams problems, Vydra showed glimpses of his ability and I think should be able to develop a partnership with Wilson and in the 2nd half, Wilson was our liveliest player with a couple of decent surges into their box - which made his replacement by the invisible Blackman even more baffling (unless he was struggling with fitness....)

I think Blackman has some pictures of Mel doing something "he hadnt oughter". No other explanation for his selection

Ella Can we take it you were only joking when you said Rawson could play the holding midfield role Have you actually seen him play hesgot the turning circle of a tanker He's a head and kick it centre half We only have two players who can do that role till Thorne is back either Hanson or Butters or at push Baird

Never seen Rawson, mista, so can't comment on that one. Putting all our 'eggs' in the Thorne 'basket' though seems foolish to me. Admire him tremendously as a player but he's far too fragile to build a team around, seems to pick up some sort of injury for every hour he plays. Feel sorry for him, but great player though he undoubtedly can be he's one of the worst value for money signings we've made and I've got a horrible feeling it's unlikely to change.
