Thread: Transfer windows...good thing or disaster for Derby?

    Agree largely with that Swale and I'm not actually doubting Pearson. There are obvious differences between pro-footballers and more ordinary employees where form, fitness and fitting in with a new manager's blueprint seldom apply in the same way. My point is that the current situation, especially the contrived creation of two particularly competitive windows of opportunity for developing a side, make it harder for managers to build a team nowadays than was previously the case. Think that's a real disadvantage of the 'windows' system. Even harder for less well off clubs than ourselves of course but I'm still struggling to think of what the advantages actually are.

    I don't think the transfer window is that bad a thing, it stops the top clubs putting in bids for players in the season run in to unsettle them. Imagine if we were top of the league with 10 games left, then our best striker (if we had one) was offered a contract neither he or the club could refuse by a top prem team, and we missed out on promotion and spent the next 3 seasons searching for a decent replacement.

    However, I don't understand why the loan system cannot run throughout the season.
