Been to a fair few over the past few years. Trouble with the bigger clubs' stadiums is that they are a bit of a tourist attraction. (Yes - i do understand the irony of that statement). This kills the atmosphere a bit. Etihad, Old Trafford, Olympic Stadium Berlin, San Siro, Bernabeau, Camp Nou, Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. Seville's ground (at home to Barcelona) was EASILY the best atmosphere with the home fans really bouncing after a late equaliser from two down. All the others were good/great in different ways but they all lacked that killer kick - pure passion - mainly because you were sitting next to Japanese, Americans etc who were just ticking off a box.
Advice? Get good seats - you might have to join a membership scheme but it'll be worth it for quicker access to tickets at official prices. Go to a game with a bit of attitude in it - derby match is the biz. Smaller clubs are sometimes easier to get tickets for and provide a far better experience. Retire early and take advantage of easyjet prices.
I hear Frankfurt is better than Dortmund.
I saw Gollum at the Velodrome...i swear i did.
I went up to the ground last summer, but didn't see a game, just had a look at the stadium. It's a bit out in the middle of nowhere with nothing much round it, but its pretty easy to get to by public transport from central Munich so that doesn't matter so much.
You could maybe see 1860 there, instead of Bayern.
I've just had a quick look at a couple of recent games and they got 16000 and 20800 (as opposed to Bayern's 75000 sell-outs)
No idea what the atmosphere's like for them in 2. Bundesliga, but tickets might be easier to come by.
Looking at the table at the moment they've just dropped to 4th bottom so the atmosphere could be a fairly familiar one of frustration.
Don't always go for a drink pre-match now pal..mainly just straight to NYS.
