Do they not use cortisone in professional sport? To be able to play with it must have been painful but I can't see it coming on just by the injury he suffered. If he did it'd be classed as a tendon or ligament injury surely.

Cyclists use cortisone quite a lot!

Campy suffered from multiple injuries due to the football being constantly fired at him during a game.

He also suffered a back sprain due to the number of times he had to bend picking the ball out of the net.
