To cancel an appointment takes 30 seconds max and opens up that appointment for someone who may badly need it .

It's not much to ask , everyone has a phone these days .
No it doesn't need all of the practice to close.

Doctors can take turns to have training time off, as for the nursing staff surely they need to just have refresher training at different times, ditto the phlebotomist and those that weigh folks and give diet advice. No need for the whole thing to close.

As for the missed appointments you're assuming that folks ring in to cancel ( nobody answers within 10 minutes anyway). I really meant those that just don't turn up thus releasing a 10-15 minute slot for the doctors to catch up and actually see the patient on time.

My doctors have also just changed their system, they will not give appointments on the day you ring in, even though there might be cancellations, they refuse to do it.

This week I caught the back end of a tv programme about a computer that can diagnose from knowledge and experience, as I say didn't catch all programme so don't know success rate but it will get better.

GPs unfortunately don't get it right 100% of the time.

Hedge fund managers aren't worth the money.

Big difference between doctors and hedge fund managers, don't pay tax to hedge fund managers, rich people invest money with them.

Nobody challenges my assertions and of course it's all easy to check and decide..correct or rubbish..

Check it out and then consider it all....Is this a reasonable way to provide primary care on the NHS?...Is it a service for the patients or for the doctors?

When I was young,I worked all hours and accepted it as my job was a vocation but now the modern doctor is work shy ,lacks experience, self centred and concentrates more on personal child care issues than population well being.

Women have flooded into medicine and dragged it down but of course I am not allowed to state such a fact!

Doctors? Self-centred? I would never have guessed.

Nice try Dr Mitty but yet another epic fail.

Incidentally, on the fifteen cruises that you have been on in the last couple of months were you wearing a blindfold and earplugs since you seem to have totally missed the demographic profile of your fellow inmates.

You seem to perceive that going on a cruise will make others think that you are "posh", part of an elitist class. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We had a week in Valencia. Wonderful food, lots of 21 centuries old culture, 65 museums, and no-one dictated where we were going to go each day. Perfect.
