What about a choice of Ashley now and Ashley with all of his promises when he first came provided of course that he had been honest enough and man enough to have honoured those promises.

Had he done that there would be no problems now. No relegations, no constant fights against relegation just success and an owner who was at first accepted on his word and ambitions.

    We didn't change. He did.
    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
If you are totally honest with yourself you don't know what state we would be in now if Ashley had given managers free reign without question and allowed money to be spent hand over fist.
It might have got us into the top 5 for a while or even a real push at the title for an occasion.
It could have sent us plummeting with a team full of mercenary don't give a flying **** attitude on sickening wages that would have eclipsed anything we see.

All could be's but no guarantees.

The real big clubs and media darlings of the southern part of Newcastle get to have numerous goes at throwing money away and having wage bills that eclipse the clubs real spending power.
We do not get that kind of lee-way.

A feast or a famine is generally our forte and it doesn't just start or finish with Ashley.

No need for managers to be given free reign without question though or to spend money hand over fist.

Ashley stated when he first came that he would be involved in the running of the club and invest £20 million per season.

There's always a happy medium i.e. it doesn't have to be either an Ashley or a Short. There are other good owners who are better models than either of these two and if you want an example off the top of my head then our next neighbour, Steve Gibson. He even provides decent family members for his club squad.

Ashley would have found his money better invested by taking a proper interest in the club instead of just empty promises and using the club as an extension of the advertising arm of his business.

Look, lads, we've got to understand...Ashley isn't Short.

It's just his weight makes him look that way.

    From his own pocket?
    From his own PERSONAL pocket?
    Each season?
    Seriously?

Is this the Steve Gibson who owns Middlesbrough in the championship, who has spent may manys eason in it and now and again had the odd flirt about in the premier league?
Shouldn't Middlebrough be fighting for a champions league place by now or can you actually understand the point I tried to make earlier?
I like Gibson and he loves the club. He's a people person. A fans fan.
He is in a worse position that we are, regardless.

What do you mean by a proper interest and what do you mean by INVESTED?
    Just so we're clear.
