Just wondering why folk feel the need to bow and scrape to anyone?

We don't have to BT, but on state occasions there's a lot of bowing and scraping goes on, but the likes of us aren't involved. As foreign dignitaries have to be greeted by someone I'd much rather it was Madge than ****s like Blair, Cameron or whatever fossil the Establishment chose to do the job, and the perks that would go with it, in the absence of the Royal Family.

I'd be far happier if he was "next up" for this

Strange thing is, despite the efforts of republicans, socialists, and various malcontents over many years, the Royal Family remains incredibly popular, in fact more popular now than twenty years ago when it seemed they might be on their last legs. I doubt there's a more popular person in the country than Madge, when she finally shuffles off this mortal coil, the outpourings of grief will be a wonder to behold, the country will literally come to a standstill for the funeral of the nation's favourite granny.

Like I said before, I'm a bit meh about them, someone's got to do the meeting and greeting, the pomp and circumstance of state occasions, and they do a good job of that, but for the most part they don't impinge on my conciousness, yet millions of people in this country, and worldwide, are absolutely in thrall to them, besotted with them.

    Why is this ?

Because the majority who support the monarchy were dropped on their heads on a sharp mantelpiece at birth.

I simply cannot get my head round how this dude gets so many medals and stars for flying a bloody helicopter...

if they offer their submission to it - they receive it's blessing....somehow believe they become a part of it's highness - the weak or inferior in them feels empowered - they're gripped.....as lose that crown and they too lose their heads.

Are you in thrall to them as well BT, you actually KNOW how many medals he's got ? I haven't a clue, and couldn't care less.

When I said I found the Royals burgeoning popularity strange, I was thinking back to a recent visit of Big Ears to Clitheroe. I was in Clitheroe that morning and went along to have a look at the old boy. I was amazed at the number of people there, it was like Clitheroe had won the FA Cup. But what I found really strange was the reception he got from all those people, they seemed overjoyed that they were in close proximity to him, they were chatting, laughing, smiling, it was freezing cold, hailstoning, thoroughly miserable weather, but everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives, there was a buzz of excitement throughout the town centre.

It can't be a bad thing, having such a positive impact on so many people, but I was wondering then, and still am, why ? What's it all about, why does the Royal Family give so much pleasure to so many people ?

Because they are just a normal down to earth family with a few privileges more than others..
