Thread: Transfer Market

In terms of whether or not we have performed well in the transfer market, we bought Rondon for £12m and I think we could get more than that for him if we sold him. Plus he's scored some ***** goals for us in the last couple of years, goals that have probably kept us in the league. So even if we let his contract run down I still think he was a good purchase.

Chadli we bought for £13m and there were rumours we were going to sell him for twice that much to Leicester or Swansea in the summer. Chester, I think we sold him for roughly what we bought him for (or even made a small profit).

Livermore, isn't my cup of tea. But he's an England squad regular and we'd easily recoup the £10m we paid for him, as we would for Burke and Rodriguez.

In terms of player quality you may have a point. But in terms of investments you can't argue with our transfer policy. Had we signed a 32 year old for £15-20m I would agree with you. But our policy seems to be that we buy players who we can recoup our cash on if things go south
Actually 123 most on here seem to side with you. I've always been a bit of a risk taker. Good job we have some steady eddies in the world or as my wife calls them 'sensible people'

Considering he has been involved in the loss of four points already...get rid now, look forward...anyone that filled the space left by his selling would not necessarily be a massive percentage below Evans.

To be fair, I forgot about the contract situation. I'd keep him if he signs a longer contract, but if he doesn't then absolutely sell. We're not Arsenal, we can't afford to pass up £30m and let a player run out his contract. Hopefully £30m would buy a bloody good striker

"Hopefully £30m would buy a bloody good striker "

I don't actually think that a £30m rated striker would want to join us now, especially with relegation looking a good possibility.
(Mind you, if that Chinese Club are still interested/able, I'd sell Rondon - for £15m even - and dangle some of that £15m towards getting a new striker.)

Who says that anyone will by Evans for 30 big ones ? My guess nobody would , in all fairness to him he is one of our better players we need our better players we need to add to these & ship out some of the RUBBISH we have & we still have a few , but most importantly we have to give Pardew some money to compete in the window , if as some folk say we have to sell before we buy then we could be in a bit of trouble, it's all a gamble we could keep him then as soon as the window closes he get injured & out for the rest of the season then where are we ? Difficult choices.

Wonder if anybody at the club has thought of taking the (said) £30,000,000 and spending £15,000,000 on a new centre half and £15,000,000 on a new forward and keeping Rondon until the summer.

    No, perhaps not.
