I think we are starting to head in the right direction but I’m not sure this team could be considered as good as the Playoff Final winning team. Yes that had a few loanees and a few older players but there was more quality in terms of Arne, Morgan, Tavs and Agard. All players that have since slipped down but back then were a real force.

Of the current team, there is some real prospects Ball, Ajayi, Vaulks but the two who I think will go on to much better things are sadly only in on loan.

On the subject of togetherness I don’t think anyone should underestimate what Evans did. That squad was together in its own way, you don’t battle back from 0-2 down at Wembley if not. He created a siege mentally which was always on a knife edge. It worked when it was going well but it also had flash points.

It could still go pear shaped yet that's for sure but the fact is there are a lot of good foundations built this season for a real push next season and that would do me. If we did get up this saeason, warnock showed that the secret to keeping up in the championship is a good team spirit and a solid and organised defence. We will have the team spirit if we keep the same squad we may just need a bit more quality in defence while the defence matures a bit. If we only have x amount of money to spend ie not a lot, I would totally focus on shoring up the defence in our first season back then building from there. But, hey, we wre getting a bit ahead of ourselves eh?

Good opening post and Warne definitely seems to be building a promising squad.
I'm not sure I agree that what we have now is better than the Steve Evans promotion winning squad though. Unfortunately that team got broken up far too early because the board weren't prepared to offer realistic contracts to the players who had got the club into the Championship. Hopefully they have learned lessons from those mistakes and won't repeat them if we do manage to go up whether that's this season or in the future.
In the meantime, let's enjoy the ride and see where it takes us. UTM.

A bit unfair that mellow. The players that left were offered contracts to be the top earners at the club...agard was the only player who was sold for a profit close season.
Arni, Morgan, revs, pringle..frecks and Smallwood played the following season. Don't forget tavs, voukic, and Hitchcock were only on loan
After the first season in the championship Morgan, revs and Pringle looked out of there depths and were imo rightly moved on
Revs we got a few quid for,. Pringle refused to sign a new contract and arni wanted to move back home...

The rest of the squad collins, skarz, Thomas, shearer, brindley, Thomas, millson, oconnor and Davis were AVG league one players imo. And proved to be when moved on

Hardly think that was necessary Archie but be reassured I won’t be posting after this.
I may have become disillusioned and at times spat the dummy out but I’ve always had this club at heart. We all need to move on and I will. I saw the improvement in the side against Bradford and I honestly hope it continues. I Forecast 13th place at the start of the season and I’ll stick with that.
If they do better good but it will be a tough ask in the Championship should they return.
I am a million miles away from a lot of people on this board so as I say, no more for me.

Perhaps others will benefit from my absence?

If I ever refer to my team as 'they', then I'll quit too :-)

    Exactly.
No need for that were all as loyal as others some just voice there concerns differently.

We’re giving credit where it’s due and criticise when it’s due.
Not sure why that is 2 faced?

And Pete Waller just because your opinions different than some I still think you’ve every right to say what you think.
    So keep posting imo.
