S****horpe United sack their manager whilst sitting in a play-off position in League One. A sobering illustration of how inflated and unrealistic the expectations of football clubs can become!

They have no wins and 5 points from the last 8 games and are 23rd in the current form table. A sobering illustration of how NCM posters don't check their facts before commenting.

I am aware of those facts.

Equally true is that they are currently 5th in League One despite that run, which shows how well he was doing previously, and he has a win percentage (according to his Wikipedia profile anyway) of 46.9% at S****horpe and 42.2% for his career, which is pretty good and suggests he deserved more time and trust. Not that I've got any particular agenda to defend Graham Alexander or criticise S****horpe.

If you take a particularly uncharitable snapshot of a dodgy period in the history of most football managers, it's possible to create the impression that they are poor, when broader analysis might show that their overall career record is good. Obviously, you can't hold on forever trusting that things will come right, but there should be less need for a club to panic if they're still sitting in the play-offs than if they're crashing towards the relegation zone.

Don’t agents negotiate contracts rather than decide where and when a player plays?
