[QUOTE=Manofpride;38888942]I agree but a lot of teams have thrown money at it in the past and failed, money doesn't guarantee success

    but it helps.[/QUOTE
Yes MoP it doesn't guarantee success but when you have players who have cost £425 million without wages ie Denayer Mandela Aguero Moreno Garcia Zinchenco Stones Gundogen can't get a start It puts every other team out of the picture Of course it's a great achievement that will probably never happen again But how would Pep go on if he was to try and manage Swansea Palace or WBA I know it's hypothetical because he's never going to manage without money along Morinho and Klop

Everything within me wants to put them down, whether it be due to the money they spent, the quality of opposition, or the dreamer inside me that just thinks that those players don't have the same level of talent as players from the past.

But it's wrong of me. They have deservedly won the league at a canter, and deserve any plaudits they get for it. You don't win a league by that margin just by luck, they won because they are by far the best team in the country. Well done to them!

but being best is one thing, it being an achievement is another. You cannot compare this team to anything before it because of the obscene amount of investment in it. In any sport where you can buy up all the best talent with an unlimited purse, you can be the best - all this talk of money does not spell success is not really true in today's football.

Other major sports across the world do not let this situation arise - all the major US sports have salary caps and, with a couple of exceptions, there a changes in title winners every season and "rags to riches" stories abound. In the NFL Philadelphia eagles won it all this year, in the NHL the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the last 4 as an expansion team, in the NBA and MLB its a bit more dynastic but still no financial dominance in the same way.

    Football needs a salary cap.

Good call Geoff, honestly couldn’t agree more. I’ve been calling for a salary cap for years.
I don’t know much about US Sports but they’ve had one over here in Rugby League for years and that way the talent is spread around much more evenly.
There used to be a chap on here, before your time, called Roger Ramjet...got unfairly banished a couple of months back and has never returned...but he, along with Manx, used to know about such things.
I totally agree with you, but it possibly needs their more mathematically insightful minds to come up with some sort of equation as to how such a ‘cap’ should be worked out.
It’ll still take a huge change to break the monopoly of the bigger and better supported clubs being the most powerful but at least a salary cap would stop them being able to buy up all the talent and eventually lead to a more level playing field.
Anyway...well said...if we still had a ‘like’ button, you won’t remember those either, you’d have got a big thumbs up from me...maybe Manx or anyone else with some greater financial knowledge could add some flesh to the bones of the salary cap idea.
Not belittling City’s achievement...but they have bought it.
