I guess I’ll be in the minority but horse racing leaves me cold.

I’m sure it’s the social side that attracts a lot of people.

Getting p I s s e d and having a scrap is a British institution now.

Yep it's pretty much all about the social for me. Always try to do the Friday of the Lords Test, The Derby, Ascot with the blokes (we all stick in £10 a month and then it seems like it don't cost a lot except what I lose at the bookies) and Ascot again with the wife on Friday. Done Goodwood a few times on the coach from the Social Club.

For Ascot last year the wife informed me she was buying a new dress.

"New dress" I spluttered "What do you want with a new dress?"

"A new hat" she said.

How did you get on 923...made a few shekels I hope.

Hope you didn't do mine, fairly close up but finished 4.5 lengths behind the winner and out of the placings, so like the baggies well and truly down the pan.

Always next year 923.

Only got to wait until tomorrow for another chance. Shergar was my first Derby been most years since and never picked the winner. The only time I recall winning a few bob at Ascot was about 30 years ago when the wife picked an 18/1 winner because she liked the name/jockey/ colours or something.

I knew I married her for a reason.
