Bet you trade that for a season in the PL though wouldn't you and 70 years in the championship .

Ahhh, the old pufferfish propaganda. 70 years in the championship is very selective spin. Barnsley FC joined the second division of the football league in 1898/99. Now, to refer to that as the championship is stretching it because there were only two divisions. There were only two divisions until 1920. So the first 20 years of joining the league you played in the bottom division. But that doesnt suit the narrative does it.

Its a generational thing. To me, and people of my generation, we were a solid second tier side, with barnsley and donny bobbing about in the lower divisions. Theres a few generations of barnsley fans who think that barnsley wont ever have prolonged periods in the lower echelons. They could be in for a shock. History shows thar BFC can easily spend a decade or more in tiers 3 and 4.

Theres every chance we could be about to enter such a cycle again. Who knows......

Ps, I'd love us to taste the top division (I dont like to call it the premier, I'm old school). In 1954/55 (may be a season out on that), we finished third in the second tier, on equal points as second place. Only two teams were promoted. We missed out on goal average (not goal difference).

The Millers are not the tiny little insignificant club you constantly like to condescend that we are. Someone (flourbasher I think) pointed out that we're about to enter our 4th out of the last 5 seasons in the second tier. Maybe we're getting back to where my generation believe we belong.

We've done almost everything under our own steam , rebuilt the ground , academy , training area and indoor complex , all paid for out of producing players to sell or PL revenue .

At this moment in time we owe nothing to anyone although we have to accept league one football as a consequence .

Our record transfer fee is higher , our record transfer fee received is higher , we tend to command bigger gates if marginally , we've sold over 9k ST's this season despite a hundred quid price raise and a division lower .

Whilst we had a guy in Patrick Cryne who plugged the financial holes to the tune of £9m that kept us in the championship you have had £33m spent on you without attaining championship status for any real length of time .

These are facts that are indisputable , we've had a helping hand and had to pay our former owner back plus a sizeable return on his investment and you've had a sugar daddy .

I sincerely hope he doesn't call for his money back and reveal the true place of RUFC in the football world today .

I like RUFC as a club and find the majority of its support down to earth and very knowledgeable .

Please don't do the we are the better club game because unfortunately I didn't write the history of our two clubs which is hardly condescending they are just plain facts .

Its not a case of doing the "we are better game" (although presently we happen to be). I was/am being honest in that I want my club to be better/more successful than yours. Dont take it personally, I also want my club to be better,/more successful than the sheffield clubs, etc.

The only reason I related it to barnsley is because it was relevant to this thread. I.e. that 4 0 victory 12 months ago gave us an insight into what was to come.

Im not one of those who wants all the local sides to do well. Stuff that, I want the millers to do well, and to be better than our rivals. Youd be surprised how many feel the same way as me, but its not pc to say so.

Animal you seem like a decent fella but I have to say at times you can come across as condescending and a little patronising with thinly veiled put downs, putting us and our club back in that little box that you believe we should be in. You're entitled to do that, but I know what's coming
after every 'well done', there's a 'but'.
We know it's tough at this level as we hold a few unwanted records from our last attempt. We also know that a club our size can, with the right people behind and within it, not just survive but do quite well. See Brentford, Millwall, Preston.

There's always an unwillingness to accept that Rotherham might be better than Barnsley right now, and you played the 'one season in the premier league' card when confronted with some historic facts😩
Ps. There were wild street parties all over Rotherham to celebrate the anniversary of that friendly win, cos we're small and insignificant.

Just to add to Hazza's points, its tiresome animal when you do the wise old sage routine, "this is what to expect fellas", etc, etc. WE KNOW FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. WE'VE BEEN HERE MANY TIMES BEFORE.

We're not Burton embarking on a wondrous mystery tour, punching way above our weight blah blah blah. We're Rotherham United. A proud old club with a proud old history. What's to say we can't now be looking at a decade or more in the championship?

£25 mill of that was spent on the stadium 'not the team' so hardly surprising that we didn't attain championship status for a great length of time. However, here we go again on out 4th season in the Championship out of the last 5!

It's been mentioned above about Tony Stewart maybe wanting his money back one day.

It seems to be happening already as we,ve had a reported net increase of £6m for appearing in the cship but we haven,t spent anything on transfer fees.

I acknowledge costs...policing etc....salaries, win bonuses signing on fees, loan fees for example Rodak will be higher though.

It could be argued that this is offset by higher attendances and merchandising

We are a proud old club. Barnsley don't have to put up with their fans being poached by the Sheffield clubs as much as we do. It's just down to geography really. Whilever the dee dars do relatively well we will struggle not to lose Rotherham based good time charlies to dee dar clubs. We can build a fan base as big as Barnsley but it will take time and a lot of years spent in the championship. Likewise if Barnsley suffer a few years in the lower leagues their fan base will drift away. But I do remember when Barnsley were in the doldrums in the 60s and 70s when they were worst placed than us.

Well actually no I aint going to go easy on the £33m , you have to have somewhere to play football in Rorherham so it's relative .

No bug ger financed our 3 new stands , office's , changing rooms , brand new training facilities , academy and indoor complex , we paid for it ourselves .

You'd still be at the DVS without Tony Stewart because you didn't have the clout to fund anything yourselves .

I didn't see too much progress rebuilding Millmoor either .
