The boots were leather as were the soles.
The studs were layers of leather held together with 3 short nails which you used to hammer the studs into the sole of the boot
That was all fine until the very dry grounds at the end of the season when the nails could come through the sole and dig into the sole of your foot.
The boots also came up to protect your ankles.
    Them were the days alright.
Guaranteed to be crippled by the end of the season.
I had a friend who’s Grandad had a pair like that, I wore them for a short bounce game just for fun. It was anything but fun, the soles of my feet were punctured by the nails and my ankles were red raw with the rubbing of the high rough leather protection.

Not forgetting the days when it was wet and the ball would weigh about 10 pounds where you were scared to header it or get belted with it. I’ll save that for another thread!

A pair of Gola moulded studs, hand me downs when I first started out, then Adidas Muller (Gerd) more hand me downs. But always enjoyed playing in my Adidas Samba trainers!
