Our worst ever fiinish at the time (and it would stay that way until 1959). Crowd was 26,734 though, a reminder that big crowds at the Lane didn't begin with Tommy Lawton, who wouldn't join for another year.

I think you're wrong son. Tommy joined us in 1947 and DID start the big attendances..... I was there!

Julie’s mum’s first game at Meadow Lane was against Q.P.R. in Division 3 South on Saturday 2nd November 1946, kick-of 2.45 pm.

The game was billed as a “no change” match, which meant if you didn’t have the correct money you didn’t get any change!

Admission prices were: 1/3d turnstiles Meadow Lane, County Road and Sutton Street; Enclosure 2/9d turnstiles Meadow Lane; Wing Stand 3/6d turnstiles Meadow Lane.

Cripes. Any idea what those prices translate to in real terms today?

I meant in real terms rather than a conversion, bet it's still much cheaper than now though.

EDIT: Apparently a shilling in 1946 was equivalent to £1.46 now making the 3/6 £5.11 now

You guys seem to have wandered off the Match Thread, moaning about our manager. This one’s about Julie’s mum’s first game at Meadow Lane in 1946.

To get back on track, here’s a bit more about that game against Q.P.R.

The team given in Friday’s Evening Post was - Brown; Southwell, Robinson; Gannon, Lockie, Baxter; Lunn, Sewell, Jayes, Parks, Cumner.

On the day, Notts were forced to make one change as Brown could not be released from military duties. His place in goal was taken by Dewick, a youngster who had signed professional forms the previous Wednesday.

The experiment of “no change” admission did not appear to affect the attendance which was 26,734. It was evident by Queens Park Rangers’ reception that they had brought a large contingent with them

That's impressive - but you are very old B'4d. I can only muster 56, going on 57 years! 40 + of them have been absolute tripe tho'.

Most of my years have also been tripe Pies not sure what happened to my post it appesrs to have broken up. I was 5 years old when l saw that Brighton game l am as you rightly suggested Ancient.

I think my first game was Notts vs Gillingham in November 1959. I watched it in the children's “pen” behind the Spion Kop goal. Two weeks later I saw Bath City knock Notts out the FA Cup 1-0 at Meadow Lane. It was on Match of the Day that night but I couldn't bear to watch it again. I got the programme and a ticket stub off eBay a few years back.
