This team is capable of getting promoted and staying in the Championship, it will need some significant strengthening to be a force in the Championship though! This is where we will see what the owners are about?
I said last season that they have seen a money making machine at Oakwell and were keen to get in on it, by that I meant that they would be quite happy to see us float between league one and the Championship, merrily selling players when we were on the up in League one just like the previous regime and replacing them with cheaper, younger players who they could sell later.
Now they have tied Mowatt down after refusing substantial bids for Moore things are looking better, so January will be the first hurdle if they keep this squad together and refuse all offers then we will go up, then in the close season if they put a bit of money in to strengthen properly I will happilly admit I was wrong about them.....time will tell?
Mowatt for me is the best signing we have made for a long time, he is developing into a proper top class player and we will see the best of him at Oakwell, unfortunately if he continues to improve at the rate he is, i fear he is Premier League bound for big money!

    Hypothetical situation-

Fast forrard 14 months. We get promotion this season, we're 7th in the championship going into mid January and Mowatts tearing it up laikin art o his skin and should be worth around 15 million quid. Sound familiar? Stoke or somebody like that tables a 750k bid and offers him 40k a week, his contract is up at the end of the season- he leaves for a dog sh1t fee. Sounds familiar doesnt it.

Is it worth getting excited about a 12 month contract extension? If the scenario i wrote about above does happen then what's the difference to the Conor Hourihane situation? Absolutely nothing

January and next summer will tell us weear we are.
Very, Very rare I disagree with you .. about most your posts But this fella will be the next Redders.
He has committed , and we should support him.... I know you’ve missed a few games, and probably some of his best ones for the club..... I am MADE UP he’s signed,

Players are always going to come and go but if our best one extends his contract surely that’s a good thing and something for fans to be pleased about otherwise what’s the point .

It's a two year contract though because the option is in the clubs favour. He won't be out of contract until the end of the 20/21 season. Assuming we're promoted this season. That gives him two years in the Championship with us. Surely in that time talks would start again if things are going well

    Contracts mean nowt nardays.

If a player gets offered higher wages at a bigger club he'll be off.

The club will be in a stronger position as regards transfer fee if its not near the end of the contract.

Most of our players are looking better against Third Division opposition, even Thiam.
