Agreed Jackal but I do believe if we were to use the term 'World's Oldest Professional Football Club' it might be more attractive to them then the current version.

Tan Hill Inn's 'Britain's Highest Inn' sounds much more than 42 feet better than the Cat and Fiddle's 'Highest Pub in Cheshire'.. if that rather convoluted analogy makes any sense at all, which I'm not sure it does after all that typing

That's my whole point gumpy - this is not as impressive as 'World's Oldest Professional FC'

At the risk of offending the traditionalists, i've never understood the importance of this moniker of being the oldest-whatever-club.

I've got some extremely old gardening shoes, that belonged to my great-grandfather, (maybe the oldest in the UK) but surprisingly they have no value whatsoever.

If being the oldest-whatever-club is the major selling point for NCFC, i'm not surprised that we find ourselves, up to our necks in the brown stuff...

I do see your point but it's our only USP, so definitely worth cherishing methinks, from both a pride and a marketing perspective, even though it doesn't actually make a jot of difference on the pitch.

It's a nice thing to have but I'd say the stadium and fanbase are much bigger attractions when it comes to investors or players

I have been mystified for a considerable time now why the "Oldest" thing hasn't light the fuse under some bored billionaires arse! What a thing to achieve! Rescuing NCFC from going out of the league and guiding them to the Prem, Prem title, Champions League winners, World Club winners etc etc.... What a PR coupe!

But that's the title I grew up with. It even said it on the back of one of those football cards you got back around 1970, you know, the ones with the gum in the pack. The players had long beards in the drawing that went with it.

We're the oldest Football League club which will likely be passed to Stoke and then Nottingham Forest.
Not by Stoke City. They never started in 1863 and the club was wound up early in the 20th Century so Stoke City only date back to then. That leaves Forest. Wrexham claim to date back to 1864 but they are in the conference.

So if that doesn't give you an incentive to avoid going down then nothing will. I'd prefer you to remain as the oldest.

Me too. I remember the unnerving way it used to shudder when people started stamping their feet as a form of applause. I also remember seeing loads of lit cigarette ends disappearing through the gaps between the floorboards. It's a wonder we didn't have a disastrous fire before the one in Bradford.
