If you want to visit then Bellevue, a city the same size as Seattle and just 3 miles across Lake Washington, a 15 minute car/bus ride away, is a much nicer place to stay and has none of the issues (but it's also expensive). If you're on a budget, as you see they don't object to you pitching your tent just about anywhere in Seattle, sidewalks, grass verges, shop doorways, freeway underpasses. I'm about 20 miles out of Seattle but have land and trees so I'm sure you could get Mrs Wrinkly to knock you up a log cabin if you want. I can supply the chainsaw

PS Fly to Vancouver and do the Amtrak Cascades down through Seattle and on to Portland or like Brin did, take a cruise to Alaska from Vancouver or Seattle.
And what a fantastic holiday it was too....Wrinkly if you still get to go you've got to visit Pike's market place absolutely lovely place especially the fish market

    Damn your eyes.

I blame me actually, having spent my first 19 years in Rotherham and the next 19 in Northampton there seems to be a pattern. Seattle is next, in fact it's already dying as this piece is titled. Take a look if you have 60 minutes to spare, shows what the impact of homelessness, drugs, soft policing etc. can have on even the most affluent cities (just watch the first 10 minutes to see what I mean).

Enjoyed watching that..seems that for every lovely place theres a dump...
    Caused by greed and money..

Ridiculous reasons getting put out here.

The main two factors are the Internet and shopping centres.

Bristol has quite a vibrant city centre but that's because it built a shopping centre there, Cabot Circus. It's like a big outdoor but covered Meadowhall. Beyond that other huge retailers are struggling because of the Internet.

They built the Westfield Centre in Shepherd's Bush but it's still a craphole.

I go to Shep's Bush regularly for gigs and shows. I think it's great, really vibrant. Good bars and clubs. What part of it are you referring to specifically?

The shopping centre and the area both.

I was there last November when the Xiaomi shop opened.

Correct, neither puts up with Roma scroungers and drunks so they end up wandering around Rotherham town centre.

Yep. Cam wondering round Seatle has really dragged the place down.
