I'm sure that some people would agree with you. Others won't. That's the thing with being a member of society - accepting the diversity of views and opinions.
For my part, it is beyond me why Lineker is paid the sum that he is. In my opinion, he's perfectly competent and can be informative and funny, but I wouldn't miss him if he were not on. Others may disagree.
Agree it is wrong Howdy. I think people should be paid according to their value to society and even that should have a limit. So those who do dangerous jobs eg firefighters etc should be paid highly. Also those who are selfless and help others eg nurses.
Footballers, pop stars, actors and other entertainers etc should have wage caps because they provide very little value to society. Put it this way society would still function without overpaid entertainers.
I'm sure that many nurses are selfless and help others. On the other hand, I've encountered nurses who used their work to steal money from patients and to steal drugs for resale. It's dangerous to stereotype.
Employment is a market like every other. If people have rare saleable skills such as those of a good professional footballer then they will command high wages. I can't see how a cap could operate.
Maybe they have skills but are they useful to running a fair and just society? Put it this way society would function without footballers but it wouldn't run very well without doctors. nurses, teachers etc. There was a time when, not long ago, footballers used to go downt pit for a shift then turn up for footy eg Danny Williams.
One for you Kerr. What value are solicitors, barristers, lawyers etc to society? Could society function without em? There must have been a time when we did?
Lawyers clearly have value to society. A person facing a serious criminal charge will need help and society expects crime to be effectively prosecuted. If someone believes that they have been harmed by the negligence of, say, a nurse, they will need help seeking compensation, whilst society expects NHS funds to be properly defended. Contracts for a house purchase or for a business deal need to be scrutinised and properly put together. The list is endless.
The danger in your approach is that is based upon an arbitrary and subjective assigning of 'value' ( another form of labelling).
How did things work before we had lawyers? Go on give us a bit of history Kerr. How did the first legal reps come about? Not trying to trap you just interested. Are we talking 18th/ 19th century?
Plus what would you say to those who said they were going to fight their own cases? Could they? Do people successfully fight their own court cases?

And that's excactly what is wrong with Sky etc. The wages paid to footballers (and the cost to the average fan) has rocketed thanks to Sky and now BT etc.
When it was only on BBC, banned from being on a Saturday, the advertising revenue wasn't there. Sky not only rip your wallet out through your backside but then put in loads of adverts on top, yet that's ok and everyone just sucks it up.
BBC though, ad free and great stuuff like Killing Eve, Luthor and the like, meh.
Agree that Sky has wrecked football and made it an uneven playing field for smaller clubs. The parachute payment has seen to that. The Blunts have a good chance of keeping in the top 2 tiers now for a good while even if they do come straight back down.
I still think that clubs should be awarded extra league points for following financial fair play. I also think they should be awarded extra points for bringing on their own players but that aint ever gonna happen with the likes of Murdoch calling the shots.
