Some strikers will "naturally" exploit the flanks. Bowery was always better as a wide man of a "three up front" , than as an orthodox centre forward. Smithy got down the wings a lot last season, but when he got there, there was nobody in the box to cross the ball to. Don't think that I've noticed wide-play as part of Carlton Morris's natural game when I've seen him play before though. Need to be a bit wary of the difference between what the players can do in training/friendlies and what they can do in competitive games eg Ryan Williams in the "Number 10" role sometimes last season (flippin' awful)

I suppose in a 4 3 3 Smithy will have somebody to cross to.

It may be the money that he wasn't getting enough of. Don't forget that it's a short career and they curl up into dried out slugs once their playing days are over never to be able to work again in any industry or owt! They just lay ont sofa with their welded xboxboyswIIs welded to their palms.

What is a winger? Imo a winger is tiger tony. A player who hugs the byline and can cross a ball. I don't mean float a ball into the box, a real whip it in type ball.

Is their room for them in the modern game due to fullbacks being a pacey breed. Plus the wingers of old didn't do much tracking back like they have to today.
Of the years very few xlelent wingers stand out. Those that do
Beckham, waddle, ginola, Barnes, figo Cruyff Giggs Tony Daly, pires, kanchelski.
ronaldiniho, overmars. How many relied on true pace. And how many did you find in there own penalty area

None in their own penalty area. Midfielders bolster the defence by blocking, harrying and getting in the first tackle, maybe stopping the play with fouls if necessary. What they don’t do is allow the opposition player to get one on one with the full back.

Taylor, Forde, Newell and Williams couldn’t do it.

Neither Taylor nor Forde could get past the fullback and neither could put in decent crosses on a regular basis.
Other than that they are great wingers and what a shame to lose them.

Taylor reportedly turned down an offer from Sunderland a couple of weeks ago, opting to sit back and let the Championship clubs fight over him..
He'll probably end up in League 1, somewhere like Coventry or Bolton.
Same goes for Forde. I liked him, he added strength and stability to midfield, especially in L1. I'd be surprised if he ends up at a club who are any better placed than us for a promotion challenge.

    Yes
They are both hopeless at Championship level but will get by in L1 which is their natural habitat.
