    The Cottingley fairies.

Had people fooled for over 80 years before one of them admitted it was just a hoax.

Putting artificial preservatives into food to make it last longer and more economic. This meant food would cost more though.

A generation later everything should be natural and organic without the extra ingredients but it will cost you a bit more.

And the bloke that got premier league game time after someone rang souness at Southampton pretending to be George Weah.

That aside, what was the biggest ever hoax that has been 100% proven as a hoax and how many people did it fool? Not particularly interested in the crackpot conspiracy theories concerning the likes of The Holocaust or 911 but more like the Panorama(?) Spaghetti Tree. I'm sure I could Google them but wanted to mine the depth of MM knowledge.
Well thinking back to school days 🤫 did they tell people the world was square and if you sailed too far out you would fall off the edge ? Not sure if this was a genuine hoax or just a a situation that was misunderstood ! Why did they not use google maps ?

Rochdale Observer April 1st in the late 80s. The River Roch flows through the town centre in front of the Town Hall underneath the road called The Esplanade. It was reported that the road was going to be removed and gondolas were going to be available just like Venice.
