"get your pencil out, check our accounts and then do the maths."

I have BT, the accounts say we made a profit of £22.2 million in 16/17 and a profit of £36.6 million in 17/18. My trusty pencil tells me that's a total profit of £58.8 million over the two seasons preceding the last one. There is not a single cloud on the financial horizon, it's all clear blue sky, but the best we can do is Peter Crouch, a cut price deal for JayRod, and a five month loan deal at the last minute. It's pitiful.

HMRC are the cloud on everyone's horizon sinkov.

This lot to select a starting eleven from, does not look altogether too "pitiful" to me!

    Pope, Hart, BFP & Legzdins.
Lowton, Bardsley, Mee, Long, Dunne, Gibson, Tarkowski, Taylor & Pieters.
JBG, Westwood, Cork, Hendrick, Drinkwater & Lennon.
Jay Rod, Barnes, Wood, Vydra & McNeil.

For all his faults BT Mr Garlick runs a steady ship, our tax bill is paid on time, HMRC are no threat to us. And as further evidence that Sean could be allowed a little more spending power, just look at that squad in another light. Should it get out of hand and the financial alarm bells were ringing, just take five players, say Pope, Tarko, Taylor, Wood and McNeill out of that squad and put them up for sale. How much would that bring in ? I'd be disappointed if it wasn't at least £100 million and it wouldn't leave us that much weaker, like you keep pointing out we have a very strong squad. Huge profits being made, valuable players in the squad as insurance, we are in good shape to back the manager, but we don't. It's a shame.

My old man used to say, "If it ain't broke, we won't bother to fix it". I really fail to see in what way we could have improved the squad we have ended up with? Anyway, enough already, bring on the Saints...

thought provoking post - Alto !

...am I "happy" with our Burnley team showing for this the fourth consecutive PL season.....right now, am not - because I believe - once again.... could play them against the majority of teams in the Championship....and would be in no way head and shoulders above them in play - and if victories, then narrowly won, so....where then, is the Premier in that....well there isn't really - it's just Bullshliting it - we've only hung on because have relied on either the poorness of others and our holding strong at the back....then - mainly poach the goals. So all fine, some might say, we're still here playing in the best League on the planet....but again - thats more bullshlit - it's an Illusion - oh sure there's the quality, and we know where that is - but for the rest it's been a slow distancing movement toward varying degrees hopelessness....which i'm sad to say, we've been sustaining, near the nethermost, but -"oooooh, what about that 7th place" I hear some say, well...i'd say, the stars aligned for those varying degrees that year - because from what I saw, there was some seriously woeful football and decision making...etc.

So it seems to me - that Burnley have figured that they can continue to play like Shlit - why?...because in all honesty, many of the others haven't been far behind them - so is it figured ? whats the point in bringing in the quality and lifting the Football to another level - when can play with the most dull dog end of displays and still be there at the end... to rake in the loot - ok, and fair enough.....but what if the others did the same - because they could, as it's far from a "Special" model, then that being so, with the divide so obvious, whatever was left of the true Premier in this League - would be off to play in some another design - leaving all the others of the Un-Premier behind. Can only hope that doesn't happen....andso, lets be honest, and stop with this foolery, and say it as it is, to get the job done....Burnley have taken the path of a sneaky charlaton - or if you prefer - back to basics moonshine.

and to end on a positive note - the new season begins....and even if I don't 'again' see what I'd like to from us as a Premier league side - then can always enjoy some of what the others have to offer.

Like I said Norder, perhaps supporting Burnley Football Club is not for you? Your hopes and aspirations lay with the Real Madrid's and Barcelona's of this world. On reflection Stan was right, "We are Burnley not Barcelona".

It's a strange concept BT, that because a Burnley fan doesn't enjoy the way we play, he should support a different team. As Norder says at the end, he can enjoy the football some of the other teams play, but that doesn't mean he has to support them. Do you think we play well in every game you watch, of course you don't, do you enjoy every performance, of course you don't, do you ever consider packing it in and supporting another team after a poor display, of course you don't. So why are you making this ridiculous suggestion to others, we're all Burnley fans, the whingeing neggoes, the happy clappers, we all have a right to our opinion and none of us are going to start supporting City or Liverpool just because they play better football, anyone who stuck with it through the 80s isn't going to jump ship now.

    Yes, I'm happy.

We have had a full proper pre season this time. In effect we have added JRod, Drinkwater, McNeil,Westwood and Taylor to last August's starting eleven, and that is progression.

It was bound to happen that we are getting blase about being in the Prem - I feel it too. But if we are realistic then we shouls appreciate what a monumental feat it is for our club to be kicking off in this league today.
Let's be honest, NONE of us thought we would be anywhere near the Prem ever again a few years ago.

    Perfectly true.

But it really is the same argument that has been used on this Board for years often in different forms.

"You should be grateful"--"Just be grateful"--"Not Barcelona"---"kicking above our weight"--"Can't afford to compete"--"what do you expect".

In that way we accept a level of mediocrity because that's what is left.

None of our Board's comments say "We are on the up"! "Watch us fly".

Its all "hang on for another year".

And honestly that comment just get tedious.

No one in their right mind would put Burnley's to finish in the top 6 its as Norder said its two divisions in one and we are in the also ran portion -at least for this year.

    Until what---?
