You're just a broken record now, there's no point arguing against anything you say because you never come back with anything meaningful and even others have said you've usually made your mind up before kickoff and stick to it pretty much unless he scores.

Why does he keep playing Rose? He's gone idle, can't pass and shy's out of every challenge.

Well, that was much better than what I expected to be honest! On another post I feared the worst, and whilst it was an utterly impotent display it wasn't quite as abject as I had become accustomed to when playing Chesterfield away...or being on the tele!

Slocombe - Can't really fault him at all for tonight, quick distribution, good hands, not at fault for the goal - 7

Brindley - Solid enough for sure but I can only assume he has been banned from taking on the opposition full back when in an advanced position. The amount of times he received the ball in a position to attack the byline but then passed it tamely inside to Rose wasn't funny - 6.5

Turner - Mountain. Didn't put a foot wrong, probably MOTM again - 7

Mccrory - Not his best game, playing out of position. Maybe partly at fault for the goal but not an awful game by any stretch - 6.5

Bakayogo - Thought he did ok to be honest. Seemed to be the only player who would try and beat a man. Unlucky to be subbed for Booty - 7

Enzio - May raise some eyebrows but I thought this was one of his better games. He did try and carry the ball but he still doesn't get to the byline and commit full backs enough for me - 6

Doyle - Always available, kept possession but not one to split defenders unfortunately. Didn't do much wrong, but was unable to set the right tempo 6.5

Rose - Good gosh. What is it actually that he does? I can't fault his effort, ever, but he was poor today, again - 5.5

Shields - I sat behind an annoying woman who kept calling him Sam. A few good carries into dangerous positions but generally got pushed off the ball to easily - 6

    Dennis - Did he play? - 5

Wootton - Industrious display. Feeding on absolutely shocking service from the midfield and never gave in. How I'd love to see our wingers beating their men and getting some balls into this guy in the box - 7

Booty - Should have replaced Rose in the middle in my opinion. Ineffective out wide with some woeful deliveries when we needed some inspiration 5.5

Thomas - One run in behind their defence, which was one more thing than Dennis managed - 5.5

Tyson - Not really fair to rate him on 5 minutes.

Ardley - I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one, what with it being Chesterfield away, and being on the tele! However, barring 5 minutes in the 2nd half we never looked like we were playing with the right tempo or tactics to force a goal which he must take account for. Just a bad day at the office I hope - 5

As an aside, I’ve never seen a footballer less suited to being a full back than Regan Booty. I assumed Bakayogo was injured. If he wasn’t that substitution was mind blowing.

We’re out of the play off zone again, so it’s safe enough to say that Ardley can jog on.

Couldn’t agree more. There was definitely an argument for Doyle and Rose starting in CM and Booty dropping out the team, but to keep those two sat deep in-front of the back four for the full 90, and bringing Booty on to play left back was completely bizarre.

It was clear that with Hollis and their other CB they were happy for us to go wide and put crosses in, which meant more creativity was needed through the middle. We didn’t have it; we didn’t make changes to have it - which is why the last 60 minutes saw us have lots of the ball but just endlessly pass side to side and get nowhere near their goal. Changing a full back or even a striker was never going to make the slightest bit of difference.

Ardley’s certainly earned more time/faith these past two months, but now needs to adapt in-game more, rather than just making what looks to be pre-planned subs. Neither Rose nor Doyle have been subbed all season. It’s really no slight to take our 38 year old holding midfielder off if/when we’re chasing a game.

We weren't even worse. Chesterfield scored with their only shot and played like an away team in a local derby. They couldn't string two passes together. We were toothless and rubbish in the final third, but we were the better team.

I don’t think Chesterfield were as bad as some think, they let us play in front of them first half and tried to hit us on the break, and the second half was pretty even. Their set pieces were much better.

As regards ratings 5 for everyone, except maybe Turner and Slocombe who were 6. Rose was awful again and why did Brindley insist on knocking it inside instead of running into the acres of space he sometimes had in front of him?
Agree with this assessment. I think we did expect to win this one but then Chesterfield spoilt it all by scoring and after that we looked to have no idea how to break them down. For me the second half and the last twenty minutes were excruciatingly frustrating as there was no tempo in our play or any incisive or decisive passing. Brindley seemed constantly to get the ball and pass backwards instead of running on. For me Notts’ dismal display spoilt an otherwise very agreeable day. As an aside when did we last play well and, actually win, a live TV game?

Which begs the question why wasn't Pierce Bird on the bench? Last time he came on at LB he got an assist from a corner. Last night he could have come in for Bakayogo and McCrory could have dropped in at LB. Booty needed to come on for Rose and Osbourne for the ineffective Shields.

Bird has done absolutely nothing wrong in any of the games I've seen him play in. In fact i think he has the best distribution of all our defenders and he offers a genuine threat at set pieces. He needs to be played.

Apart from odd Cup games, probably 3-1 against Ipswich 1981 ( that wasn't live though)
