    Misprint above for 1969/70?
As a kid, went to a County Cup Final match at Millmoor that ended 1-0, with Roy Massey scoring the winner. Think he was originally a centre forward, but sometimes filled in as a winger. Probably 1965/6 season.
It was a competition where reserves/squad players often got a chance to play, even back in the 60s. Are Barnsley paying the costs for the recovery of the trophy?
Think you are spot on with that mikemiller, Roy Massey good shout, first county cup game i could remember that, a lot of sheff.u. fans if i remember right.

Was the 1965/66 final held over until the following season , Archie? (I remember writing about the match when I was at school, probably the day after).
There is a book on the County Cup by A.Kirkham. Just spotted an an extract on Google ...

The 1967/68 final was held over until October. Doncaster beat Barnsley 1-0, but were presented with the Senior Challenge Cup as the County Cup had been lost (It was later recovered)
Losing the trophy was obviously a County Cup tradition

Update on H & J show (TalkSport Radio) just now (27/04/20)...

County Cup has been missing for over 20 years - last seen in an office in Barnsley. Cup is made from silver dating from 1880, lid is from 1920. Cup base , with record of the trophy winners, is at Sheffield FA HQ and was not lost.

Bloke who spotted County Cup on eBay and bought it , will be reimbursed by Sheffield FC, and they will be asking Barnsley FC for a contribution to the costs

Oops - that should read "will be reimbursed by Sheffield FA", NOT "Sheffield FC".
I'm assuming the office that the cup was last seen in was at Oakwell, but that wasn't specified in the radio report.
The answer to the 1969/70 puzzle may be written on the cup base?

Found more details of the "Roy Massey" County Cup Final fixture for the 1965/66 season in an old Millers v Coventry 1966/67 season programme. The "held over" Millers v Blades County Cup final was scheduled for Mon 2nd Jan 1967 , 7.15pm k.o. (pay on the day). FA Cup Round 3 didn't start until 28th Jan in 1966/67 season.

I was at the game, but don't remember if it went ahead on the scheduled date. Must have been fairly mild weather on the day if it did, because I don't remember it being played in typical wintery conditions.
