To be brutally honest, Grealish's reputation as a diver preceded him here. For me the telling angle was from behind which was the view Friend had of the incident. Grealish plants his left leg against that of the Palace defender and pushes off with his right foot when he realises he's lost control of the ball. It looked like a foul as he had gone through a crowd of Palace players, but the going to ground was Grealish's doing. Hence the freekick to Palace for simulation.

Friend had already blown the whistle before Lansbury's shot went in.

It sounds hard I know but a big part of Grealish's game is winning freekicks.
When he leaves Villa and plays against you you'll see what I mean.

He does go to ground too easily and even some of our support have grown tired of it, he is the most fouled player in the history of the PL though & there's still 8 games left! All those refs can't be wrong surely?

The point I'm making here is that he'd released the ball and besides that there was contact from Cahill so the situation went against us - the other night we got the rub of the green.

A very well reasoned reply though AM - cheers!

Evening WCV - you need something at Newcastle tomorrow or the first bolt could be in the coffin. Grealish is fouled a lot but on many occasions he goes looking for it at every opportunity. Grealish does not help himself though by being a poser - silly little shin pads - silly hair styles etc. I am very much old school - players are there to play football and not look complete posers in a fashion contest! Grealish does not help himself either by being in the gutter and being pissed and playing bumper cars. On 70/80 grand a week there’s no excuse! Lee Hughes went to prison and went from a hero to a W anker in my eyes - the difference between Hughes and Grealish though is - Grealish has got lucky so far but he could have killed someone too! If Grealish grows up - does not go to ground too easily he could go on to become a much better player and the skill is already there.

Yep - by all accounts he trains very hard and practices longer than anyone else in the squad, the other stuff will either have sponsors queueing up with deals or if he doesn't sort out his social life it'll be his downfall.

Thought he played well against Newcastle last night - but still the diving and looking for a free kick was on display.

In a top team he would be superb, in our side he has to go hunting for the ball for long periods which limits him positively impacting in the final third. We are absolute gash and will go down with Bournemouth based on the run-in.

I genuinely believe he's a very good footballer but your manager's current tactics of a narrow backline allied to a diagonal long ball up the pitch in the hope that Greasy collapses in a manner worthy of a free kick are pretty woeful. As for most fouled player in the Prem' there's a huge difference between the player who's been fouled most and the one who's seen a challenge coming and chosen to shift his weight and flop over. Still laughing at the link by the way, cheers 😊 .
