What is it with our underperforming strikers and the SPL?

I was really pleased that we signed him, but he never really cemented a place in the team and I never got the impression that Ardley really fancied him, so I’m not surprised he’s gone. Sh!t in the playoff final as well. Laughing a lot at the Notts fans on Twitter who are basically telling St Mirren that they’ve signed the new Les Bradd.

As someone else said, must be on a good wage so there might be room to sign someone pretty good.

He had a very good goals to minutes ratio but he could only really play alongside someone big which hampered us. I'd love to see the break down of how many goals he scored and who was his strike partner, I suspect it would be heavily swayed to Wootton being that man.

He was good, but I'm not losing sleep over it. St Mirren hopefully see this and also have a target man next to him otherwise they've been sold a dud

We didn't fancy him in League 2 and sent him off to Grimsby on loan. He never really fitted in at Notts and I can't say I'm too bothered about this.

It’d be nice to sign a striker who scored goals regardless of who he’s playing with. Since Hoozie we seem to have had a run of lads who’ll score goals in the right formation/with the right partner/when the wind is in the right direction. Though if we keep him I’ve no doubt Roberts will get 20+ goals.

Completely agree. Tidy player and would've been pleased if he had signed but if we get promoted this year we would probably have had to replace him next year anyway.

Hopefully they're crunching the numbers right now on a young, up and coming version with more potential.

This is part of a piece on the St Mirren web site. It seems that Dennis spent most of his career in non league football.

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Kristian Dennis on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old forward joins Saints following the expiry of his contract at English side Notts County and subject to international clearance.

Kristian began his career at Macclesfield Town, but left the club in 2010. He would subsequently have spells at Woodley Sports, Mossley and Curzon Ashton with his impressive form at the latter, which saw him net 72 goals in two season, leading to a move to Stockport County in 2013.

He would spend three seasons at Stockport, but found himself back at Macclesfield on loan in the third season. He impressed in that spell at Macclesfield, scoring 27 goals in 44 appearances.

His form at the Silkmen lead to a return to the English Football League as he joined Chesterfield in 2016 where he played alongside ex-Saint Paul McGinn. In two seasons at Chesterfield Kristian scored 31 goals in 90 appearances.

Despite Chesterfield’s relegation to the National League, the forward remained in the football league when he signed for Notts County. Kristian would net 11 in 40 including the first goal in a 2-0 win over Barnet in the National League play-off semi-final.

Shame. Liked him as a person and player and thought he would always be in and around the team with the busy schedule. St Mirren obviously going to pay him more. Don't think Ardley quite fancied him. Great player at this level.

Sorry, I think he deserves a lot more credit than he appears to be getting on this thread. He had a goal per match participation rating last season, the best in the squad for a player that never really got the number of starts he probably should have. Ardley never really fancied him and it's a shame we won't get to see just how he would have fared if given more game time.

I agree. A bit of a shame really that Dennis has gone as he was a natural poacher and finisher. He could come on and change a game as well and could be in the right place at the right time.

Some people are not bothered but he was our second top goalscorer behind Wootton last season. So we need to find a suitable replacement. Although I have faith and belief we will.

For whatever reason I don’t think Dennis really established himself at Notts but last season certainly contributed significantly when he did play. He came from Chesterfield as their top goalscorer after they got relegated and was sent out on loan to Grimsby once Neal Ardley came in. Then last season Wootton and Thomas appeared to be the two main strikers with Dennis being super sub for a big part. Then on our run before lockdown he was in his best form since joining the club.

The departure of Dennis leaves Enzio and Sam Osborne as the only two players who were contracted to the club before Neal Ardley joined. It will be two years in November since Neal Ardley came to the club so it just goes to show that it takes approximately two years for a manager to fully build their own squad from scratch.
