Slightly off-topic but does anyone know when and why Lady Bay 'crossed the river'? When I was a lad it was in West Bridgford but it is now the name of a retail park near Sneinton among other things...

A lot of point in my opinion. Even though some see us competing in this competition as a bit of an embarrassment, I've loved it from the start. It's given me some great memories, like the 9 man win at Yeovil and Michael Doyle's stoppage time 250 yard yard winner against Dagenham (it gets further out every time I think about it). The best memory though has to be the Aveley chairman's reaction when his club were drawn to play at Meadow Lane. I never thought anyone would go ballistic with joy at being drawn away to Notts County! It's the exact antithesis of the monster the Premiership has become. The cash was pennies in their terms, but they would struggle to match the passion.

    1-1, we lose on penalties.

I agree, this competitioin (in reality the FA Amateur Cup) has far more history than the Screweverybody/window/roverpaint/U23 thingy. If Notts became the only club to win this and the FA Cup it wouod be great IMO.

Totally agree. I'm rarely one to praise the FA for anything, but this competition as you say has far more prestige than the Daffy Duck Cup. This isn't a training session for Premier League U23 sides, it's a competition that non-league sides for many years have been proud to win. Yes, we don't want to be a non-league side, but given that we are right now, then we should seek to be as successful as we can in that environment.

Looking forward to the match but very wary. I have to go with 2 -3 but would be delighted to be wrong.

Good analysis showing the things a true fan cares about.

Ps Doyle was walking along the river bank when he hit it.

Not really, I said it was the Aveley chairman when it was actually their chief executive (I know you are a stickler for accuracy). It does show what the game really should be about though, and can be heard at around the 45 second point on the twitter bit on this link:

Are we talking Thames or Mersey?

Can’t see it affecting the game, but it’s blowing over the city centre now.
