C'mon everyone, let's have some positivity!
Me, I'm positive we will see an improvement; less being breached defensively amidships due to defenders remembering what the word defending means, Rooney will break into a run, the strikers (I'm not sure which one's but we'll ignore that for now) will burst into their box to sniff out every opportunity, the passing will be quick, decisive and forward thinking, the goalie will gather every cross with dominance and authority, and Cocu will be cajoling and inspiring avidly from the touchline!

....... Oh, I've just woke up!

    3-1 Norwich.

What can we expect as a starting XI?

Marshall in goal is, IMO, a no brainer.
RB? Will he go with Byrne? Will Wis get the spot or will young Bateman get a go (if he plays in the 23s tonight that option is off the table)
RCD? te Wierik to keep his place? Wis to get the shirt? Curtis D to get a go?
LB straight choive between Buchanan and Fozzy. For me, in that order too.
LCD? te W? Wis? Evans? Fozzy?
    DM1 Bird? Shinnie? Evans?
DM2 any of the above, in fact, I'd say anybody but Rooney the way he is currently playing
RMF choice between Knight, Whittaker and Holmes. The latter might benefit from 1 or 2 more cameos off the bench
#10 role Sibley or Rooney. See my comment on DM2
    LMF Jozwiak
Striker Marriott probably but if he's not going to get the right ball his game requires we may as well go with JHI and not Roo.

The above is not intended to be an anti Rooney vendetta. It merely reflects my own thoughts on his performances since coming back from injury. He is not, IMO, ready yet.

I didn't know he was injured, just obviously unfit, both physically and "match fit".

I don't know about Cocu, probably a few changes, I'd go:

    ----------------------------------Marshall-----------------------------------
    Byne------------Te Wierik--------------------Clarke------Buchanan
    Holmes----------------Bird-----------------Shinnie-----------Jozwiak
    ---------------------------------Knight-----------------------------------------
    --------------------------------Marriott----------------------------------

That was harder than I thought, but I think Sibley needs a rest and to play as a sub, and Rooney needs to know he's not got an automatic place in the 11. Would have liked to have the option of Waghorn and Lawrence in there. Beilic could be useful if he gets going.

Rooney missed a chunk of pre season with an injury and is still playing catch up

Waggy and and Lawro have a slight chance of being ready following the international break but I wouldn't bank on it.

Bielik is doing some work with the squad and some on his own. He will have a couple of U23 games before getting a 1st team chance

    Source: Cocu interview.

God...that side looks lightweight doesn’t it? Hoped we’d have some strength in by now but it seems not.
Really hope I’m wrong, but I can only see another heavy defeat...4-0 to Norwich...our season to start after the break.

MA why no Clarke at LCB. Bateman no chance to many kids already plus he was poor against Everton U23 the other night .LB agree with you Buchanan but I don't think he will start .RCB Davies for me . Agree no start for Rooney , I would keep Marriott up top because Norwich will be forced to give Ben Gibson his debut he's a good defender but lacks pace plus he's not played for eons In fact I would like Marriott and JHI up top . If and I realise it's a big if Cocu fills the midfield with Holmes Shinnie Evans Bird and Knight . Leave Rooney ,Jozwiak on the bench we may be able to stop them playing and actually give somebody a game at last

With so many names buzzing around I missed Nobby. A faux pas on my part. I'd have him in as first choice LCD.
