Tony Godden did well for us, though, he was very good at making a routine save look spectacular.

My dad decided to stand with the Scousers that day whilst I was in the Brummie Rd.

The goal caught the old man by surprise and he almost got crushed to death as around 10,000 Liverpool fans surged forward, they filled the Smethwick End that day.

I saw the whole goal situation unfold in front of my own eyes........it was like watching a car crash in slow motion.

The sheer cunning of Daglish as he just crouched in the net awaiting Godden’s almost inevitable faux pas......it was sheer genius, I actually clapped in disbelief 😫

Always rated Tony Godden. Since the days of Jimmy Sanders I would put him second only to Ben Foster. Followed by Osborne and Hoult.

Remember the one he let through his legs for England when we played Scotland in the home internationals?

Banks and Clemence were the two best England keepers in my time.
I'd probably have Tony Godden in today's side over Sam Johnstone at the moment, and Tony Godden's 65 now. Anyway, RIP Ray Clemence.

I was stood against the pitch side fencing in The BRE that day and I completely agree, it was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I seem to remember Godden bounced the ball and inexplicably rolled it way too close to Dalglish who poked his boot out and put the ball in the net. I remember John Wile giving Godden a right rollicking. 1-1 I think? although I remember Liverpool were easily the best team on the day. Clemence played in that one I'm sure?
