I don't take anything for granted Al, i fully understand i could drop dead tomorrow, and some day in the future will be my last.
I am just saying how lucky i have been.
A lot of my school friends are gone, one was a doctor.
I have always taken everyday as it comes and done my best to enjoy it.

Stress is one of the worst culprits for lowering the immune system.
To be fair Des I don't think supporting the Albion helps in that regards.

Then I was invited to the GP surgery for a routine health check where everything seemed fine until the nurse said that my heart rate was too low, 44bpm. I told her that was normal for me but she insisted that I have an ECG, which found that I had an irregular heartbeat, Atrial Fibrillation, as it’s known. I have since had three cardioversions and two ablation, each of which corrected the problem in the short term. The irregularity always returned. I still swim but haven’t done much cycling as riding up hills sends my heart rate sky high! Just shows that you can feel fine but be completely unaware of an underlying problem. It’s probably good that my mild cardiac issue was discovered because otherwise I could have keeled over with a heart attack or had a stroke. I miss the hard cycling but haven’t yet given up on being able to pick it up again; there’s something satisfying about riding up a steep hill!. As for longevity, I don’t know whether I will last as long as the female side of the family or not; my Mum lasted until 93, her sister went to 106 but my Dad died at 64. Who knows, eh?
You’ve gone a decade past your dad almost Kets so my bet is that you follow your mum’s gene line.

106 and 93 is a tremendous asset to have within your family blood.

I’ve kept fit and trained since before my 22nd birthday, I always had the determination to want to “look like me” for as long as I could if that makes sense.

You get these blokes of my age with almost no hair or a scraggy bit of grey, a beard, a paunch or a real gut and the look of an old man.

I still get people who I don’t recognise asking me if I’m the bloke they were at The Grange school with and I left there over 42 years ago.

If you look at my last school picture and me now you can instantly tell it’s me and I’m proud that my personal efforts and willpower with training etc have paid off along with good genes.

My wife is an even better example at 64, on holiday in Cornwall a few years ago a woman asked her if she’d gone to Crabbe Street infants school in Lye 50 odd years earlier which she had 😲

You need luck Des! I had rarely been to a GP in my life - never taken bollox like the flu jab - actively played sport and my luck ran out early this year! You don’t know what’s around the corner!

It’s luck and a happy life without stress. People who are in high powered jobs get fantastic salaries but they pay the price through heart attacks - stress - few holidays - not seeing their kids as much as the next person with an average job.

I know someone well who was a tennis coach at 45 - very fit - did not drink - parents in their 90’s and he dropped dead with a heart attack. I also know an old couple who walk for miles - have alcohol daily and for them it keeps them happy and stress free!

As a GP said who is a good mate - you could do a full MRI regularly but in between there could be something that turns sinister very quickly and bang!

I have several holidays a year and enjoy life where I see people my age pouring money into pension funds so money is tight and they might not see a penny. When my late mother passed I did not expect a penny and didn’t want a penny so gave it to the kids. Likewise my kids will stand on their own two feet and I want to enjoy every last moment as opposed to going miserably thinking I have to provide for others. Pointless having money if you don’t spend it to make you happy! I have always detested people who are tight b astards and this usually is a trait with those who have money!

    Everyone to their own!

That point about the MRI scan is very pertinent mate.

I was having a bout of what turned out to be irritable bowel syndrome five years ago and I was sent for the CT scan, full bowel and intestinal scan.

Results came back negative and obviously I was relieved and delighted.

“ I’ve definitely not got cancer then” I said to the doctor?

“On the day this was taken you didn’t but who knows now” came the reply 😫

He explained to me that on that day I had nothing but a day later in a cruel world I could have.

    Makes you think doesn’t it!?😫

You have hit the nail on the head Mick! That’s what my mate said who is a GP. People for example who have their prostate removed always say - I am cancer free!! Yes you would be cancer free from a prostrate removal but nobody could guarantee that cancerous cells had moved outside the prostrate prior to removal.

I might be carrying your luggage to Australia mate as don’t want to stay in this cold s hit hole!

    You’ll love this one mate.

Emailed my usual contact at Kuoni yesterday and got no reply.

Email their main office.......got no reply!

Finally got a reply from the Solihull girl I deal with today as she’s working from home.

Asked me to “bare with them” because they’re not doing bookings for Australia for 2022 yet😫

FFS.......I thought they were in the holiday business?

Mind you, I got a bit of a shock when I did a YouTube hunt to look at the hotel I was planning to stay on at Kangaroo Island.......it burned to the ground in January so that was a bit of an omen in itself.

I’d love to spend 3-4 months a year in Aussie but I suspect maybe a month early in 2022 will be the most the wife will stretch to.

    Kuoni though 🙄😫

Not surprising! The now CEO of Kuoni called Derek Jones was my boss at TUI and he was a useless c unt but one of those whose face fitted! No wonder the company is s hit!

There is a scientific link between good physical and mental health, it's all to do with chemicals in the brain.
It's not utter bollox as Mick says.
If you feel good about yourself and enjoy life then your health in general is usually good too.
No coincidence that stuff that gets you high like Morphine, Gas and Air and laughing gas are used to treat pain.
I have never tried any of the above, my brain produces enough of the right chemicals to keep me happy and upbeat, it does make me a little mischievous though.😉
