It’s a ‘1’ for me.
I can understand to a degree not believing Boris and the awful Matt Hancock but I really don’t think that all those scientists would have wasted their time developing a vaccine if they knew that it was going to have no effect. Of course, there is a possibility that the vaccines could have little or no effect but we don’t know that; if the scientists that have been working on them say it should be 70-90% effective then you would have to be very selfish and, I have to say, a bit dim witted not to have it. It’s the best chance we have of getting our lives back to normal.

Firstly, your opinion is the exact reason why we are in the mess we are in. People completely missing the point around this virus.
The virus puts a portion of people who get it into intensive care and seriously ill. There are only so many ICU beds, ventilators, nurses and doctors. Double or triple the amount in ICU and people who need treatment don't get treated. Nurses and doctors get redistributed to tackle the need and then others have delayed treatment. That minor injury/illness that gets low prioritisation then becomes a bigger problem.
In a nutshell, you having your own decision takes someone else's away from them. If half the country decide to make their own minds up, the other half suffer the consequences by not having the treatment they deserve. This isn't a 1% situation.
What annoys me is that we've had this virus now for nearly a year, but people still can't be arsed to get the point.
To answer Mick's question, I would have the vaccine. It really should be mandated and I know people hate this type of thing but those who don't follow the medical advice and don't have the vaccine are removing the right to effective healthcare of those who do choose to have it.
Answer 1, absolutely.
Answer 1 for me.
We all desperately need life to return to normal. One thing I don’t understand is we have those in need prioritised first to get the vaccine, which is what I agree with... but why don’t people in highly important roles (not just nhs staff) but our politicians all get this so we can see parliament return to normal. It might not seem fair but it would go a long way convincing people to take but also they are the biggest decision makers for the nation. Whichever party you support we need our government and opposition to be functioning at its best, not over virtual means.
A very good point about the MP’s having it first to inspire confidence Regis.
I guess the reason they won’t is because they’d get crucified by media etc if they did.
Maybe the more elderly politicians and those with health concerns from ALL parties should be done as a collective in a media covered session.
This would stop it being manipulated as a Left/Right favouritism type of thing and it’d set the right tone.
Shame on you Mick for waking up this moron. However, after reading this wonderful constructed post, everyone should realise that he is absolutely correct and all the scientific data is rubbish. How could we have allowed ourselves to be hoodwinked for so long? Oh, bollox, that's another bottled emptied!
I can see that happening as you describe it Mick but it baffles me why. If you’re in a job of high significance (especially being elected to) I don’t see the issue. In the US, don’t they have a secret bunker to take the President to make safe? The rules can’t be too fair to spite ourselves, nhs staff at the very top.
Viruses mutate all the time, a new strain doesn't automatically render a vaccine ineffective - the flu jab for example is produced to deal with a few strains and no vaccine confers 100% immunity. What I'm not sure of though is whether vaccinated folk would become carriers if they come into contact with the virus as is currently the case with asymptomatic carriers. If they do then it very much is a numbers game to prevent the collapse of the NHS - in my own view we will end up with a model similar to flu, which also kills.
If you're in an at risk group (age, BMI, underlying health conditions, BAME etc) then you'll need a vaccination every year to deal with the mutations into new strains. As with flu, you take your choice.
Interesting stance by Spain as the Covid injection is rolled out across the EU
1. Nationwide curfew until May between 2300 and 0600 except to go to work, shop for medicines or care help
2. National register to be kept of all people who refuse to be vaccinated. Document not to be made public but will be shared with other EU countries
