Its all in the head Al. If you have the right mentality you can move mountains. Sawyers and Phillips like some other performances look abject. Not with it at all. You can have loads of skill but if your head isn't right, you get nowhere.
One Good thing about changing managers especially someone like Sam is that they wont tolerate passengers. Fresh outlook on the squad. If someone doesn't put a shift in he wont use them.

Wrong - he’s used them so far!!! Quality is not in the head whether you are a secretary or a professional footballer! So far under Fat Sam - we have been worse than under Bilic!

Snodgrass is a good signing but most of the team are not good enough!!

I think Boingy has a point,

This team held Man City and Liverpool to draws away. They were neck and neck with Leeds last season until the lockdown. And we really should have got better results against Chelsea, Man U and Tottenham this season.

We do have something there, but our mentality is fragile because we've conceded so many poor goals and lost so many games recently. We have no momentum or confidence - that plays a big part in sport.

We need changes and this team isn't the best side we've ever had, but its not as bad as our points tally. With a bit more luck and a bit more nous we could have had more points this season. And I think we have deserved more points.

Whilst we have a defence containing the likes of Furlong, Ajayi, Ivanovic, Bartley, O’Shea, Gibbs and Kipre who are proven to be the worst defence in the Prem and continue to make mistake after mistake then we have no chance.
As much as I do not want Allardyce at our club he has no chance with these players and has no chance of getting the money to replace them.

I think Ajayi is pretty decent, I don't think we've been that bad at centre half this season.

I do think Furlong and Townsend/Gibbs have been okay-ish, they've made mistakes no doubt.

But I think by far and away our main issues have been further forward. The midfield don't protect the defence at all. I think Sam has seen that which is why he's making it a priority area to change. And we need to have a striker similar in stature to Rondon, big and athletic - someone who can hold the ball up and run the channels. We have no outlet at all at the moment, our only chance of scoring seems to be a set piece. That's because the ball is constantly coming back when it gets knocked up there.

The midfield should be the engine to feed the attack and protect the defence! Sawyers, Livermore and Phillips have been consistently poor since lockdown and simply not good enough - not even in the championship. Gayle was never replaced and Zohore, Grant, Austin and the Welsh International are not fit to lace his boots!

It’s so bloody obvious to see week in week out!! Snodgrass is decent so that’s encouraging but we need somebody to score! I hope the players mentioned above never ever go anywhere near the side again!!

A 20 year old kid on loan has drive - fight and energy every game. To say the others have a fragile mentality is an insult to him!

Luck is made! Sheffield United could say they were unlucky not to easily beat us as they missed four sitters!!! How we won that game makes us the luckiest team around on that weekend!!! So please don’t anyone say we have been unlucky overall as it’s bulls hit!

We are simply, so far, not good enough. Yes, we have had decisions go against us, but vs Sheffield U we were extremely lucky to get the win, a win they deserved. Vs Brighton away, we could easily have been down with more than one goal at half time, Liverpool a good point of course but with ”business as usual” in that first half etc...

5-6 new good players (and I don’t include reserves GK in that), and it might be possible, maybe... 😬

I fear we are totally doomed! I watched Spurs v Fulham this evening and the effort, resilience and fitness levels of the Fulham team highlighted to me how we are already down! Fulham had pace throughout the side, a desire to put a foot in and they didn’t fade as the game went on! I am at a point where I don’t get disappointed when we lose ( although it hurts me to say that ) as I don’t expect us to show up, put a proper shift in and give it our all ! Something is really really wrong when you don’t give everything you have got! I fear a drubbing at the Dingle’s on Saturday and it is weird that for the last 15 years in the build up to playing them I am on edge as I am desperate to beat them but this week I really cannot get up for it as I don’t think our boys will show up so why should I allow myself to have raised blood pressure worrying ! It worries me that I am not worrying if that makes sense!
