Anglo Italian cup 1972. Press ignored the experiment. Idea was no player could be offside if they were outside the 18yard box. Must have been a nightmare to referee. Think the 18yard line right across the pitch would be a start.

Always thought League Cup may have tinkered with offside rule, maybe 18 yard line would be good....spread game out a bit, probably a bit more time on the ball.

Was it drybrugh cup that did that or Anglo Scottish?
It was the Dryburgh cup, i am sure.

If i recall correctly they extended the 18 yard line to the touchline at giving as you say a line straight across the park.

Think it was the Dryburgh cup tho Bcram.

I just missed it's 1st incarnation and I'm sure I read somewhere that they brought it back in the 80s.....for a season or two but I can't mind o it.

Anybody out there see any games in this comp? or Anglo Italian?

Did it change the look of the game....good or bad?

could well have been the Dryburgh Cup. I Googled " Experiment with offside rule in football" and found a bit of info about the Anglo Italian Cup 1972 I think.

I think it must have been too difficult for the players to cope with.

Saw a few games in the Anglo Scottish, Norwich at home and Sheffield United home and away ,come to think of it Norwich was the Texaco Cup, a forerunner to the Anglo Scottish, i think.
