Agree navy the barstewards need to realise they are for life not 2 or 3 months till u get fed up with them. As you know had 2 of mine put down in the last year. One was a 19 year old Retriever, this Feb a 12 yr old JRT. Broke my heart, & I will be man enough to admit I shed a tear for them. Now we have a 10yr old rescued Huskey who was abused that the daughter got from the rescue place she does voluntary work. Some of the stories you hear that happen, I would be up for murder

Well done for starting this fred, Navy.
I am actually more of a cat lover but dogs have played a huge part in my life. We have had 2 basenjis - what fantastic dogs they are - so intelligent and loyal. Lovely movers too - more like foals.
Having a dog opens up your life in so many ways. Biscuit, we picked up on a rough local estate and he was grateful for being rescued from day one. When my daughter was little, he played the part of the donkey in her nativity production.
He would go out running with me and follow loyally even without a lead. He did charity runs with me and was sponsored for lots of money.
Early one morning we went out on a forest run and he led me to a parked car. Inside that car, a lady had committed suicide. He had jumped up at the driver window to attract my attention. What sixth sense led him there? Taking your dog for walks often results in adventure and you get to know people you would never meet otherwise.
Shut your dog in the garage by mistake and see how grateful he/she is when you open up. Holds no grudges.

They are amazing creatures, love seeing people photos. When we took on our dog (rescue Lab as always) we were her 4th owners. She was just 4. How sad is that?

She's coming to the end of her days sadly, as she has a tumour in her liver, but whilst she's still happy, she can potter and doze in the sunshine to her heart's content. She's been all over with us, and here she is in a Swiss cable car a couple of years ago. She also managed a very high suspension bridge on foot (well, paws) and Europe's steepest funicular railway on that trip!

English Springer me, love her to bits but she's as mad as a box of frogs, just over 2 years old & other owners say that they start calming down at about 9 so not long now. COYP.

We had an English Bull Terrier, 4kin nightmare she was. She loved me and the wife to bits and was really affectionate, (If you can call the equivalent of being mauled by a small grizzly bear, affection), but she'd rip the legs of anyone else who came within 2 feet of her. We never got rid though. You take a dog on and whether they're good or bad, it's your responsibly, regardless. Poor sod died of cancer about 4 years ago and despite the absolute nightmare she'd always been, like the soft pr@t I am, I still cried me eyes out.
