    Money talks!!

In terms of broadcasting rights across the world IPL ranks THIRD behind NFL and Premier League. Not bad for a niche sport played in a very few countries. Also consider it is only played over 6 weeks and therefore how much the players and clubs get paid per game compared to any sport across the world.

No wonder the players love it.

Add to that they have limited overseas players to 4 per side and no wonder India has seen a massive increase in talent, especially quick bowlers. Compare where they were say 10 years ago to now. Their fielding and mentality have improved massively. Well done IPL for developing Indian cricket on the back of all this money. Other countries have benefitted as well but India has benefited most in so many ways.

Maybe the EPL could look at themselves and decide if they have benefitted English football to the same degree?

I was going to quote that myself but didn’t as I couldn’t find the quote again and was worried I may have got it wrong.

An amazing statistic in my view and shows why IPL is so important. See the IPL is chartering 6 planes to fly the players out for the restart of the tournament as well.

I’ve never watched the IPL even though I love cricket.

Meaningless rubbish, who gives a f u c k if Delhi or Bangalore win or lose.

I went to see Brisbane play Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash in 2019 and it was okay until the lights failed but still not a patch on test cricket.

That T20 cr@p isn’t cricket, it’s an abomination designed to pull in as much cash as possible from those with extremely limited attention spans. It will ultimately be the end for Test cricket.

Not a great fan of the IPL or T20 myself either but I still appreciate that it is commercially the greatest income generator for cricket worldwide and therefore will for many reasons be seen as more important than Test cricket. It also is a great introduction to cricket for potential new recruits, both male and female.

I have been lucky enough to watch Test cricket at 6 Test grounds in England, Tests in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Wellington and Christchurch. However, like all sports there are great moments, great days, even great matches but also some times for whatever reason there are let downs.

I went to watch Yorkshire play Sus*** the other night at Chester-le-Street in the QF, over 350 runs in just less than 40 overs and some real quality players, all for £15 adult entrance fee. As good as a sunny day at the Test maybe not but great value for money and great evening for all the family.

How many on this board are actually interested in the IPL? Personally, I have no interest in it whatsoever. Why would I? Teams cobbled together from all over the world with no affiliation at all. No thanks!
