Who would you like as manager Alf.

My first thoughts are between Allan Brown or Harry Potts, and both without the interference of Bob Lord.

This is not a best team by any means, they're just the players I loved watching most.

    Harry Thomson
Freddie Smith, Martin Dobson, Colin Blant, Keith Newton.
    Trevor Steven, David Walker.
Glenn Little, Jimmy Mac, Willie Irvine, Dave Thomas.

I always wondered if Blanty had been dropped on his head as an infant, suffering serious brain damage as a consequence...

Mad as a box of frogs was that lad.

One of his rare appearances BT was at Goodison against Everton and the unfortunate Bob Latchford, who got the full SP off of our Colin. I can remember in the magazine When Saturday Comes the week after, Colin was given a Special Award for 'The hatchet job he did on Everton's expensive ornament Bob Latchford'.

He was definitely one of the 'If it moves kick it' school of defenders. He'd never finish 90 minutes in this this era.

Impossible to compare players from the past with current players.
Always reminds of Denis Law when asked how he thought his 1960s Manure team would fare against the current (2015?) Manure team. "We'd win 1 nil" said Denis. "Why so narrowly?" asked the interviewer. Because we're all in our 70s now said Denis.

The Burnley Express poll has closed and after the votes were counted the team was

    GK: Heaton
DF : Trippier, Angus, Mee, Elder
MF: L James, Dobson, Blake, McIlroy
    FW: Irvine, Lochhead

I saw all of these play in Claret with the exception of the peerless McIlroy who had been sold before my first match. I would definitely find a place for Harris or O’Neil in midfield. Adamson would definitely improve the team but I wouldn’t argue with Irvine and Lochhead up front.

That comment was previously attributed to Bobby Charlton.

My own favourite from Bill Shankly “Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”

I liked the Shankly one where he introduced his new signing Ron Yeats to the press, "He's a colossus, come and have a walk round him".
