A manager who only has one system isn't a good manager.

Just because we're pressing higher up the pitch and supposedly "working harder" doesn't make Val a managerial genius.

You can press high up the pitch with a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-5-1 or 1-0-10 formation, it has nothing to do with formation, it's all about player fitness, mentality and capability.

A poor or limited manager is one who can't see his own squads limitations, we accused Darren Moore of being stupid and Shann of being naive in such as the Villa semi final, what we are seeing here is a manager displaying all of the same weaknesses we accuse others of.

I've watched Albion for 50 years now and like most of you I have watched thousands of matches, I think I know a bit about football like you lot do.

Are any of you going to put your hand up and say that if you were our manager at this moment and you had this squad that you'd play three at the back?

I certainly wouldn't, not on ANY occasion with this squad.

There are some great managers out there who mix up their defensive line based on their opponent. Brendan Rodgers comes to mind, who often switches from 4 - 3/5 when he feels he needs to.

But there are other greats who wouldn't shift their system and have succeeded highly in the game. Conte's never moved from his back 3, Simeone/Pep/Klopp their back 4. Ferguson wrote in his autobiography that he'd never play a back 3/5 as he felt it pulled his defence apart. Ferguson did switch his midfield and attack about regularly though.

I think some managers like to perfect the system they have through familiarity - like Wilder or Nuno. Nuno tried to switch it up in his last Wolves season and it fell to his demise.

Don't get me wrong it could be our undoing but might also help us get some stability and each player knowing their role and gain predictability of knowing where the person next to them will be all the time.

Totally agree Matt. Bilic used to frustrate me as was always swapping the team around and it caused huge problems!

I say again for anyone to start criticising Val already when we are second in the league with the weakest West Brom squad in years is deluded.

Val will come unstuck though if we are promoted as he will be expected to work with a much worse squad that last year to stay in the division which is never going to happen!!

Even God could not perform the unexpected with Phillips - Livermore - Ajayi - Bartley - Zohore - Grant to name but a few
