Recruiting & building the U23s is great, with the hope that one or two, can make the step up etc, but in our present position / relegation still likely to be a fight until last few games of season, maybe not whats required to ensure survival this year.
Always comes down to money / players available, but a striker & CM, could be the difference - the thought of failure, and all the ramifications that follows, would surely be more " expensive " than trying to find say 15 - 20 mill this Jan.

Leeds presently are giving better Contracts out, I to assume ward off interest from other clubs for our sought after players, namely Kalvin & Raph.
So finding £15million or so ain't that easy unless we sell.

Obviously a transfer fee functions as financial compensation for the early termination of the contract of a professional football player & the transfer fee is contingent on the player’s current football abilities, future potential, duration of the existing contract, amount of future salary owed within the remaining duration of the existing contract & the willingness of clubs to agree on an economic equilibrium through supply & demand.
Spurs prior moving into new 60,000 stadia gave Kane a new 5 year extension & other squad players as well, then fired Pochettino with Mourinho & now have large debts, another Manager in charge of remaining highly paid egotistical mercenaries blowing hot & cold whilst Levy juggles large debts.

Of course the Leeds strategy is a no brainer as funds are tight, age-limits effect sell on price as do replacements, so hence small squad option with U23 options to bolster.
This jigsaw appears to be clicking well presently to me, particularly with a few senior pro's around the 30 age group & bear to in mind MB, his staff, are soon out of expensive contracts.

A lot of money to find & balance with today & tomorrow decisions looming throughout the club for sure.

Joffy’s ball to James was a joy to behold. He looks like he is on the same wave length as the better players too and links with Rapha, James and Dallas pretty well.

Really pleased for Firpo too hope he takes a lot of confidence from that game - he looked very good with the ball.
I was going to post about Gelhardt's cross but got tangled up with work stuff. So many players when they cross, move the ball outwards from the right wing. Gelhardts left-footed ball spun and bent slightly towards goal. This allowed James to be able to beat the taller defender to the ball. The spin helped to get it past goalie as well. If it had been crossed with the right foot, I promise you, James doesn't get to it. I never thought about this until 2 seasons ago when Van Dyke, yelled to one of his players to take a free kick left footed from the wide right about 25 yards out. Van Dyke promptly scored. I think its got something to do with having to turn towards goal to defend it.

Yup - for the same reason never quite understood what the in-swinging whipped corner went out of fashion - it’s pretty lethal as just need to get a decent touch on the ball and it’s hard to stop.

    Nailed on.

Defenders don't like to correct their approach to the ball when moving towards their own goal.

Inswinging balls hit towards the far post are a great weapon when mixed in with slow defenders and nimble (and wily) attackers.
